Brands - Which Marshal club?
Hi,
I've been meaning to get involved in marshaling for a while now and have been looking at the various marshaling clubs but am unsure which is the most suitable for me. I'm in south east London and Brands is my closest circuit (mainly interested in race marshaling rather than rally) and it seems to be covered by a few different organisations though! Advice and pointers appreciated! Thanks, Iain |

hi,
you dont need to join any club to marshal, i dont and have managed for many years, many people feel the urge to, i would say check to see if it benefits you or not, personally i would rather save my money for the petrol and beer for after racing. but basically contact the chief marshal for which ever club is racing at the circuit on the weekend you wish to marshal and they will arrange for you to get tickets and get you with someone who can show you the ropes its good fun, and try your hand at cars and bikes. |

Iain,
The BRSCC run a majority of the meetings at Brands. Thje cheif marshal is Peter Scillitoe who can be contacted through the BRSCC South East website. BARC also do meetings there such as the Touring Cars and the CSMA Festival. Being the member of one club doesn't prohibit you from marshalling for others i.e. I'm a BRSCC member and regularly marshal for BARC and others. Any specific queries then feel free to PM me. And before Mr Green gets there, welcome to Ten-Tenths! |

You could do no worse than looking at the Marshals' Club website - www.marshals.co.uk. That will give you all the info you need.
Welcome to our mad mad world !!! |

Iain, Jon beat me to it but welcome to Ten-Tenths and the wonderful world of marshalling.
The advice above is pretty sound. Look at the Marshals Club website for ideas on how to become a marshal and the sort of things you could be expected to deal with. As has been said above the BRSCC and BARC organise the majority of meetings at Brands Hatch but other clubs are also involved such as the MGCC, 750MC and many more, many of who's Chief Marshals post here. My advice would be to e-mail Mildred at the BRSCC mildred@brscc.co.uk and ask her to send you an availability form. Also contact the BARC on www.barc.net and do the same there. Peter Harding, Chief Marshal 750MC and John Watson, Chief Marshal MGCC will almost certainly want to send you their forms as well. If you have any questions then ask away as the guys and girls here will give you all the help you need. If you fancy dipping your toe in the water this weekend, the BRSCC have a meeting at Brands on Monday so e-mail Mildred and ask for a ticket and I will hope to see you at sign on. |

Thanks for the replies guys! Seems much easier to get involved than I first thought.
I picked up some info at the Autosport show this year and promptly did nothing about it, time to get involved I think. Stephen - I'll get the availability forms off the various people and contact Mildred about Monday (might not be able to make it though as I may have to take my car to Ipswitch for some long-awaited upgrades!). Thanks again and see you @ a race event soon! Iain |

If you got info from the Autosport Show it may well have come from me, as I was there on the Marshals Club stand!

*lol* small world eh?
Not that you're likely to remeber but I was there with my girlfriend who's also interested in getting involved but maybe in a less 'line of fire' role - either 'organising stuff' or administratively. Anyway - email to Mildred sent, see you Monday if I'm mobile! Quote:
