Race broadcast directing
In the old times of analog television and 14-inch screens, race broadcasts used close shots as often as possible.
Today with 50-inch TV sets, it seems that broadcast directors mandate wide shots even at race starts, to the point that I can-t even tell car colors apart. Please stop it! |

Totally agree! Wide shots make it impossible to distinguish the cars. Let’s bring back the excitement of detailed views!

I like both and with the races I watch there is plenty of time for both.
I’m cool with a wider shot at the start so we see what’s happening. Then replay the detail. There is as much pressure on the TV crew as there is on the drivers at the start! |

Looking for another big mess at the start in Japan.

Knowing that during some starts you can find some cars almost anywhere but on the track, I'm with Adam here. Wide shots and then replay. Isn't it whats used by RC's?

Compare the original captures with these two. Here you can see cars pretty clearly.

See your point Nabu, pretty much valid. But because this is meant to be seen on only one screen at a time, TV teams have to chose for us. I suspect a kind of influence from instances too.
