Blundell BTCC with MG?

I've just heard an interesting rumour that Blundell might be driving for MG in touring cars next year.

I think the rumour was started by an Autosport Journalist (so take it with a pinch of salt).

However i do feel this is a more credible rumour than a lot of others floating around about who drive's where next yr, for a start he has a link with MG through Le-Mans and secondly MG might be fielding 4 cars next year so there would a seat available.

Interesting rumour. I heard that Blunders was trying to get a seat in the Winston Cup series.

But I would love to see him in the BTCC.

If anyone will know if theres any truth in this rumour it will be Guy.

I personally think Mansell will be the strongest Candidate for a seat with MG next year.

Worth remembering that Nige drive a West Surrey Racing Ford back in 1998 so he'll know Dick Bennett. The publicity it'll attract would be good for MG and the BTCC but I bet Reid would blow him off the track, maybe Hughes as well if he stays.

This is all well and good but hasn't Mansell retired from "full seasons" of racing?

I suppose he could do some guest races but after the fiasco of Aaron Slight this year he might not bother.

Wouldn't surprise me if Blundell drove an MG, as then MG would also have filled half it's Le Mans squad.

Thats right and if youv'e got the Mansell Ford Video, Dick seemed to get on very well with Mansell and spoke very highly of him.

(O.K. I know he ain't goin to say, Mansell you f'in idiot why did you plant my motor in the wall at brands twice), but I still get the feelin he'lll be in the MG.

Mansell video

LOL

You got the Mansell "my Touring car year" Video!!!!

He didn't do much of the year did he.

I have not seen the video so i won't slag it off but other than showing the donington rounds in full and "that punch", what else is there to go on the video.

Certainly don't think it will be Damon anymore.

I reckon Blundell, although I'm sure MG wouldn't mind Nige!

After several fiascos with ex-Formula 1 drivers coming to the BTCC (I.e. Jonathan Palmer, Gianni Morbidelli, David Brabham...) I don't know If i would want to see Mark Blundell step into a winning car and bash it up the way Palmer did in 1991!

and derrick Warrick was no slouch either.

I spoke to Mark Blundell at the Rockingham CART event, and asked him about Le Mans 2002. He said he was looking to do it again but probably not with MG, so the chances of him racing Touring Cars with them ????

I don't know, I'm sure MG will want predominately British drivers for both their TC and Le Mans programmes. Reid, Hughes, Mansell? Blundell? Thommo? Phil Bennett? Who knows?

I wouldn't mind seeing Blundell or any other ex F1 stars in BTCC, it will highlight how good the series is by attracting these top stars.

You could speculate on as many as 20 drivers at the moment all offering what MG are looking for and Mark Blundell would fit into one of those 20 however he has no experience of touring cars over the last 5 years.
There are times I will have to sit back and listen you guys rather than offer an answer, I found the comments regarding Mansells link with WSR and Dick Bennett evidence that someone is doing there homework and looking into the background as to why he may be a possible driver.

Regards

Guy
