With stalwart British marques Bentley and MG making serious efforts at the 24 Hours of LeMans this next year, Aston Martin has once again thrown their hat into the endurance sportscar racing ring again. Aston Martin is expected to build some race cars designed after the upcoming Vanquish road car but have no intention of fielding a factory effort. They claim to have several customers inquiring for race cars.
Aston Martin last competed at LeMans in 1989, but their last win came in 1959 with Roy Salvadori and Carroll Shelby defeating the then Ferrari juggernaut. |

That would just about make my life complete - Astons running at Le Mans as well as Bentleys!
Actually, Aston did prepare a DB7 based racer for Le Mans a couple of years ago - or at least gave official sanction to a private initiative. Sadly, it failed to pre-qualify, but the car is now running in the Aston Martin Club championships, and a sexy little beastie it is too. |
