Daytona

To all you Yanks out there,

Is there any sign of an entry list for the Daytona 24 yet ? I have wrangled a 'business trip' to Cancun to coincide with the event. I can stop off in Daytona on the way back, but is it worth it ?

Nice one Hakkiman.

I see Jim Downing is back with his Mazda Kudzu (or is it a Kudzu Mazda?).

And what's this Gentilozzi Jag all about?

A few R&S's in that entry list.........

Isn't Paul Gentilozzi the 2001 Trans-Am Champion?

Excellant work !

Anyone know what a Mosler MT900R is ?

I do tend to think how many more years the R & S v Ferrari battle can continue at Daytona, both cars should know their own way around the circuit by now.

A Ferrari 360 as well !

Anyone like to pick a winner ?

I'm just off to watch Jasper Carrot on the box, so I'll think about it, SL.

Why don't you post us a poll, Hakkiman?

A total lack of factory entries, Mustang, Corvette or Saleem. No Audi's, or am I looking at the wrong Champion Motor sports. Is even the Audi allowed to race ?

More info on the Jag required urgently by us Brits. So come on America, we are waiting, Union Jacks at the ready for another well deserved Jaguar victory.

the 24 hours of daytona is run by grand am, not by the alms. grand am does not allow factory teams unless they make their cars available for x amount. so, factorys tend to shy away from grand am.

the day when alms takes the rolex 24 back can not come soon enough. the past two year won over all by gts cars?! factory teams even.

Is that the same Tony Stewart that races in NASCAR. If it is, my money's on them. Even though I should be supporting Ascari because I play cricket with a member of the team.

That's the entry list for the test days, though, not for the race itself.

As for the Jaguar, it is technically a Ford in disguise, no?

Yes, Tony Stewart is THE Tony Stewart. Teaming up with a Brit and a Dutchman, and turning right, AND in the dark, talk about a culture shock! Seriously though, I hope he will do well.

For more info on the Mosler MT900 see http://www.moslerauto.com/mt900web/index.htm

Actually the Molser don't look to bad, 'Vette engine should mean ample power.

The Jag is a bit of a let down, why take out a very good Jag lump and stick in an old Ford item ?

Because it is approved by the regulations like that (http://www.sccapro.com/01rulebook/01-rules-s2-ta-2.pdf) - and let's face it, Jaguars are nothing more than Fords these days anyway . Underneath the bodywork, the car has little in common with the XK8.
The TA Viper also only has a V8.

Namedropper........

Shame about the Jag - still, nice to see the name on the test day entry list even if it isn't the real thing.

Well......

Pick a winner from that lot.

It could be a very good race, I can just imagine the last 2 - 3 hours being a battle of the walking wounded.

If either the Ferrari or R&S hold together for long enough they should win. My bet will be for the R&S.

The Mosler is a car similar in concept to the Saleen S7R.

It can be seen in more depth at www.moslerauto.com

Gentillozi should be raicng in the GTT class (Grand Touring Tube frame), a class setup for Trans Am cars to compete in.

I saw the Mosler at Watkins Glen 6 Hour in May, but it didn't even complete the first lap. It stopped with some transmission problems (I think) in the boot.
My money is on the Champion Lola/Porsche.

Another XK8 factoid: the car will run in GTS where it DOES NOT BELONG.

It is a tube frame racer, and GrandAm has its own category for such cars, called AGT. A stands for "American". As the XK8 has Jag bodywork (what were the odds for that?) it is classified as a "foreign" car and therefore is not eligible for AGT, although underneath this thin disguise it is as American as a TransAm Mustang will get, complete with a genuwhine Detroit Heavy Metal V8 pushrod lump.

Silly.
