The Rules for the Fantasy Champ Car Grid
THE RULES
Each team principal must choose two pilots, one chassis and a name for his or her team, and post it on the Champ Car Forum, ideally before the Champ Car season starts but entries will be accepted all season. Team members may be changed at any time before the season begins; thereafter there will be no changes unless your pilot is fired or otherwise no longer competes. Teams that join after the season beginz may not change personnel. Each Team Principal may appoint a Press Officer (spin doctor) for the purpose of bragging, apologizing, or making explanations, as circumstances warrant. The Press Releases shall be posted on the Champ Car Forum after the race, and will be run in the Newsletter that or the next weekend. Teams may also name a Primary Sponsor and Pit Babe (male or female) but don’t have to. Points will be awarded the same as in the Champ Car races themselves, including the extra point(s) for pole on each day points are awarded. In addition: One “Hard Charger” point will be awarded for each place made up on the grid from the position the pilot qualified in (as long as he finishes the race). One point will be awarded to a team if both cars finish in the top five; five points will be awarded if all the team’s cars finish on the podium. The first car to retire in each race will lose one point. If both pilots retire, five points will be lost. If the pilots retire because they hit each other, an additional two “idiot points” will be lost. For three car teams, seven points will be lost if all cars retire. Teams may name a third pilot if they desire; however, if all three pilots finish the race, only the top two finishing pilots on a team will be scored. That is, if the three pilots finish first, third and fifth, only those two finishing first and third will be scored. There shall be no extra allowance for handbags or headache potions for three car teams. Ten points will be awarded if your pilot wins the Championship; two points will be awarded if your pilot’s country wins the Nations Cup. |

Liz...
If I remember correctly, there were more rules prohibiting a 3-car effort. The wording you use above seems to make it seem silly to run only two cars. I thought that, if you wanted a 3-car team, you named two primary drivers. The third was a backup only to be used if one of your first two choices DNF'd. ie) If I chose, in this order, Tracy, Bourdais, Junqueira... And if Tracy was P4, Bourdais P12, and Junky won, I would have to accept PT's and SB's points because neither of them DNF'd, and I couldn't utilize BJ's points at all. |

Also, I thought that you stood the chance of losing more points when running a 3-car effort.

Here is the rule amendment for 3-car teams:
If you choose to run a 3-car team, scoring will be as follows: (1) Only two cars will be scored for the weekend. If all three cars finish the race, only the two who finish highest will be scored for championship points (what they give the actual on-track driver). That is, if my drivers finish first, third and nineteenth, only those two who finish first and third will be scored. (2) The third car will receive "Hard Charger" points for any positions he makes up from his starting position, but will lose points if he finishes lower down the grid than he started; i.e. if Nelson Phillipe is my driver and he starts thirteenth and finishes third, he receives 10 points. But if he starts third and finishes thirteenth, he loses 10 points. (Yes, a team can have a minus score for the weekend!) (3) Rule 2 applies only if all three drivers finish the race. Any driver who DNFs has no effect on the points at all. |

We did have a "first two nominated drivers" rule but it was confusing so we've changed it to top two finishers.
But I'm the only one who picked a new guy except for 'Dinger who isn't "really" an unknown quantity. |

Proposed Amendment
A number of members have suggested that we amend the rules to allow for substitution of drivers when a team's driver becomes unable to race due to injury. That is, the real driver breaks his arm or leg or, heaven forbid. something worse, and is out for a prolonged number of races. The substitute hired by the actual team would be the substitute on the Fantasy Grid, though; if Newman Haas hires Gualter Salles to stand in for Bourdais, you would have to put Salles on your team. You couldn't choose to run Jourdain Jr., for example. What do you think of htat idea? |

Seems reasonable to Team CCP as well although all of our drivers are bullet proof and quite possibly immortal.

That's the only fair way to do it, IMO.

What is the rule on the latest time we can change our teams?
For me the problem is that I need to know who Coyne has and he's announcing right before 1st round qualifying. Theoretically that could taint the results, although I'd argue it will have little bearing on the course of the season. It's been suggested that Coyne will have Servia and Enge. If this is the case I would put both of these drivers on my team! I would like to request that we have until 11:59PM EST on Friday to finalize our teams. I ask for the entire day because some of us may not have time at work to make our changes immediately after the announcement. |
