Interested in Marshalling?
On the marshal's forum Stephen Green enquired whether there was anyone out there interested in becoming a marshal. The replies tended to be from those of us mad enough to spend most of our week ends marshalling already so I thought it about time to see if there would be more response from members of other forums.
Marshalling is a good way of becoming involved in motorsport for a lot less than the cost of competing. It also has an excellent social scene. Currently there is a shortage of marshals due to the fact that there seems to be more and more events each year and a fairly static number of marshals to cover these events. |

Darrell, what a good idea to post this in other forums! I hope we get a few enquiries. Anyone wanting more information could start by looking at www.marshals.co.uk the website of the British Motor Racing Marshals Club. Failing that, pop along to the Marshals Forum and have a chat to any of us there!

marshals wanted
Maybe the offer of free entrance to any race meetings of your choice (except maybe the GP, wouldn't be surprised if Octagon charged the marshals entrance fees) is not good enough. Perhaps we should try some of the other forums! like the armchair enthusiasts
see if we can tempt some of them out of their armchairs and away from their playstations and get them to come and see some live action close up. |

You can start marshalling at 16 (pits, paddock etc) then at 18 you can venture out in to the action (or usually rain) on the bank Check out the marshal's forum for more info |

I might try and do some during the summer before I go to uni!!! I'd love to work in motor racing so marshalling really appeals to me!

Hopefully see you at Brands Hatch then young man! If you ever get stuck for a lift I guess I could make a small detour to help you out...

There are certain jobs you are allowed to do at 16 years of age, sadly being on the banking isn't one of them. For information either visit the marshals forum where this subject is currently being discussed or look at the web site of the marshals club www.marshals.co.uk Let me know if I can be of further help.

Thought it was time to move this question back to the top of the forum. Can we tempt anyone else out there with the delights of marshalling. If so join us on the marshals forum where there will be plenty of advice on how to get involved.

First meeting at Silverstone on Saturday. Anyone interested in trying their hand on the other side of the fence and spending a day as a marshal then come along.
Sign on is between 7:30 to 8:15, I can arrange to meet you at the main gate if you are unsure of where to go or alternatively contact Pam Dearn at the circuit on 01327 320297. All you need for the first meeting are plenty of warm clothing (preferably natural fibre), some good gloves and boots and some waterproofs. Also bring plenty of food and hot drinks. Hope to see some of you there |
