AMRS 4 Queensland Raceway
I am thinking of doing the Qld round of the AMRS, but haven't raced at one of their meetings before.
What should I expect? Are they crowded in the pits? Is space allocated or first come best spot? Any rules regarding post race interviews or such like? Jeff |

There is normally not many spectators at a AMRS round (unfortunately), but there is normally some fantastic racing, you can normalyy get access to the pits, it is only V8SC that make that a little difficult at some tracks.
Go along and enjoy |

I hope to get access to the pits, I should have worded it better, I wish to compete at the AMRS meeting.
On the AMRS website there is nothing about garages etc, so I am wondering if they allocate them or does Queensland Raceway? Jeff |

With larger scale national meetings at QR, the 'premier' classes usually get preference to the garages. What class are you running in? I'm not sure what they charge for the AMRS meeting, but a normal club event, they're around $100 per day... QR isn't a very demanding driver's track (if you're running by yourself it can get pretty boring), but it can be a great racing track. Running in a pack, slingshoting out of turn 2, a big tow down the back straight setting up for a great brake duel into turn 3, & the same can be said going into turn 6. You can still pass at turns 1,2 & 4, but some extra balls certainly help - not to mention the tust of the driver you're passing! |

I won't be competing now as the deal that we were working on fell through. We were attempting to bring a new class but we were not ready, so it has been put off for now.

Despite what I said earlier, things have changed again and I will now be competing at Queensland Raceway at the AMRS, the class you are all wanting to know.
The class is not a new class but is the first time in AMRS and only the second time at a car meeting at QR. Sidecars, the three wheeled two person machines normally seen at bike meetings. I will know more details soon but am looking forward to it. Jeff |

Awesome!! I was there at their first car meet at QR - If you were there for that one Jeff, I was one of the guys that got taken for a spin on one during the lunch break - I was bruised for a week & it was well worth it!! Those bumps are certainly alot bigger on a bike than they were in the car.... |

Interesting that 10 Sidecars turned up and raced at a car event at QR but the premier Motorcycle series, the Australian Superbike Series, could only get 4 entries for next weekend at QR and has cancelled the side cars involvement from that meeting??

In Qld at least, I think you'll find the sidecars will continue to run at the car meets in the future. They have a warmer welcome on our side of the fence...

Yes it was a great meeting, it my first car meeting as a competitor and I really enjoyed it. We were given a warm welcome from both the promoter and other racers and the meeting ran very smoothly.
There were ten sidecars, we had hoped for more but with closeness to other meetings and also the uncertainty many may have felt it better to watch and if it goes well, do it next time. The Queensland Sidecar guys did a lot of work and made it run smoothly and helped the NSW guys and girls a huge amount. During the lunch break we took some officials for "taxi rides" on the sidecars for a bit of fun, and it was well received by all. Some of the sidecars entered would not be eligible to enter the Aust Cship in two weeks time and some of the teams would not meet the qualifying cut off, so it is hard to compare the two. I was going to use as a practice for the title round as it was outside the seven day practice rule, but received the call about the cancellation before I left, so saved my good tyres and had a bit of fun and a bit less pressure. Jeff P.S. results are here http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/re...17/06/2007.QR1 |

Interesting the lack of comment here. 12 months ago this same meeting was lamblasted by many - so if any of you are out there and did have a look it would be interesting. What I saw was a much improved AMRS with some good entertainment. Most classes numbers are improving and quality getting better also. Some categories are now getting categories within categories( eg Thundersports with the Future racers plus the full bodied sportscars looked very good) .Oz Boss attracted a few F 3's to join the F/H plus some other interesting cars and looked fast. Certainly it will get a lot better yet but all in all an entertaining meeting-- and there were some paying spectators.

I must say it was a much improved race meeting over 12 months ago, but it probably helps having 40 more entries!
Ozboss- it was lucky that 16 cars were entered, because with attrition/pointless crashing if there were a field of 10 there probably would have been -2 cars left at the finish! Thundersports- it was good to see the local guys Morcombe and Watson give the Wests a bit of a lesson in speed. Shame about a flat battery and a broken throttle cable though! BTW- who awards full points based on qualifying? A bonus point for pole maybe, but full points? Hrmm... TCC- Nothing has really improved here in 12 months, or 24 months, or 36 months. There would have to be a lot of cars out there still, crickey, you can buy an AU Supercar roller for something rediculous like $15,000, but it seems to be in a bit of a holding pattern. Production cars- ok. Would be nice if we could simply get all of the proddies around the countryside in one place at one time instead of spreading themselves into thirds... IMC- Not bad, but significantly boosted by the local punters, will they continue to support the series? The Maserati looked horn, but I think it lacked a bit of pace... But the one hour was a deadset cracker race! Sidecars- Would be good to see a few more entries, but I suppose they will come, just like the Superkarts, so long as they don't spread themselves too thin. There was some good racing at the front, and it appeard a whole lot less contrived than the test run at a recent AASA meeting! Still a long way to go. There was some good racing, and some battles within races. I don't know, I might be a bit harsh, but 5.5/10. |

I don't think your assessment too harsh-- as I said much improved and you agreed .Everyone invoved with the AMRS series is well aware that improvement is required. The same rate of progress to next year is required(at the least) -- at that point I think you would be able to say it was good-- and significantly different to State meetings. I thought the course commentary was terrific-- the best I have heard.Knowledgable, informed, interesting and entertaining-- set a standard for other circuits.Series commentator Al Magritzer was backed up by excellent locals and category specialists and guests .
The comment on the OzBoss is spot on-- I was wondering how big that sheep station was they were racing for! Gee- there were some big off's-- but at least they were having a go and it looked like it. As you also said-- categories need to sustain and grow. There will be some big announcements later on about next years AMRS that will please all true "motorsport" fans. |

The AMRS is going to get bigger and better, it has to, it has dedicated people who are passionate about providing entertainment and variety. Keep up the good work Rod and Gary and as soon as I can stitch up a deal, I'll be back in one way or another. |
