v8 Supercars TV rights 06 and beyond..
There is some noise around about Foxtel and v8 supercars tv rights.
It might disappoint the free to air viewers. :-( There is a story about Foxtel starting a new Fox Sports channel next year with v8 supercars as its cornerstone telecast. It will run like the old Foxsports 2 ....only on weekends???? |

Commercial television has first 'dibs' on any live sport. Fox Sports will only get it if the free air stations dont want it.

The take up rate on Foxtel Digital has not been all that good..atm the are getting rid off employees to try and save money. They need a telecast that will force viewers to have Foxtel installed. |

Would anyone be interested in a delayed telecast over a live telecast though??

Well a lot of channel 10's races are delayed now anyway.
Do you think that all the races occur after 2:30pm on a sunday afternoon. |

That's a point, and no doubt the rights to broadcast delayed would be A LOT cheaper than the live rights....so it could happen! I think the only race 10 would want is Bathurst live...

I think the agreement will be something like this:
Channel 10 show all the big events live (Sandown, Bathurst, Indy, Clipsal). The other events get 2 hours on a Sunday Afternoon between 3pm and 5pm. The new channel that is being formed on FOX Sports will have all the events live. Also, with Bathurst and Sandown and such... there will be no adbreaks. Id love to know how many ad's were shown during last years bathurst telecast.. (if you include the showing of the series sponsors on the return of each ad break). Fox Sports = Every race live - no ads during races Channel Seriously = 4 Races Live, Others put into a 2 hour package for TV (ad breaks in both) |

Wouldnt they be better off making a 24hour pay tv motorsport channel which shows the v8s live, but not only that the f1live, also showing wtcc, dtm, speedway, motorbikes, trucks, a1, irl, cart, rally, EVERYTHING! id be signed up in a jiffy if we had a 24hr motorsport channel in OZ!

If the viewer numbers drop so will the sponsorship dollars of the teams - we already see Holden & Ford sponsoring many of the teams where the teams have either priced themselves out of the market or are simply unable to attract third party sponsorship dollars.

Free-to-air telecasts are not going to go away, nor will the amount of hours being shown drop in any way, if Fox Sports were given the rights, it would probably only affect who films the stuff etc... and more action shown on Foxtel. You would still get same-day afternoon coverage on a free-to-air network
Also, if the meetings were shown live on Foxtel, there is the very likely chance that the support races would also get shown live, fantastic. |

I used to be someone against foxtel and pay tv in general. Until I saw it. Then got it. Personally I'd love foxtel to get V8's live. Channel 10 would still get their telecast as they do now, only youd now have a choice to watch the events live and without ads during races. I tape bathursts and can get about 1 3/4 hours of ads just out of the race itself. I'd much rather watch the action than ads. I'd be prepared to pay for it on fox too.
I would imagine it would act much like superbikes and moto gp where fox shows them live and channel 10 still broadcasts. And as racer69 says, they'd show support races too and that can only help them. |

I forgot to mention that fox currently has a deal going with v8's as they show the coverage on the monday after the event with the ads stripped out. So its quite a possibility for the deal to be bettered for '06

look theres no use jumping ahead & making comments saying that Fox is going to show the v8s & ten will show the "big" events. we dont know whats going on & probably wont for a while. if ten dont resign then seven probably will. if they both dont, than they are thinking of someething else than record vieweing numbers, and start saving for foxtel! but they will resign!

nothing to do with being rich
if you earn 50ish a month you can afford it, you just need to prioritize |

yeah well its not as easy as saying its only $50 a month or whatever. that $50 can be better spent elsewhere. if the v8s go to foxtel, yes, i will probably get it but boy i would be ****ed along with thousands of others!

If AVESCO does a deal with FOX Sports, V8Supercars will still be shown on free-to-air TV, i don't see what all the worrying is about, it will certainly not be Foxtel exclusive.
