The photo of the Mustang is a green car with central white and yellow stripe. Can't remember who drove it.It can be seen on the video - Motor Racing 60s style - 1967 in the saloon race supporting the Race of Champions.

The green Mustang with white & yellow stripes, I feel it could be Aussie Bryan Thomson who raced in the UK and Europe around 1967 or 1968. Can someone correct me please if I am wrong. Thanks. |

Bryan Thomson Mustang
The photo that "Racing Fox" posted earlier is the Bryan Thomson Mustang that he raced in the UK for a season before returning with it to Australia.
A colour slide of the Mustang can be seen at my website:- www.drive/beechey The car was the ex-Norm Beechey car which won the 1965 Australian Touring Car Championship. It was the first Mustang to win anywhere in the world, so it is claimed. My site is dedicated to preserving amateur Australian motor racing photographs from the 1960's and early 1970's, particularly colour slides. I am encouraging people to place their own, personally shot images on the site for all to enjoy. It can be an on-track shot or just a pit or paddock shot. They don't have to be perfect as blurred and scratched images are still worthwhile. The site is at: www.drive.to/beechey |

Thanks Andrew for your kind remarks. I don't suppose you have(or know of)other photos of Bryan Thomson's Mustang when it was racing in the UK in 1967???
Thanks, Chris. www.drive.to/beechey |

Being a Bryan Thomson "fan" from way back. I thought it was "thommo's" pic that racingfxgt posted. I'll have another look at your site. |

Hi there
The green Mustang with the stripes was in fact Bryan Thompsons. The panels were in fact fibreglass. The reason I know this is that when I owned the car the panels were with it. It was originally owned by Norm Beechey and then sold to Bryan Thompson who won the 1966 British Saloon car championship with it. I only found this website recently so I would have clarified this earlier. |

Some facts about the 71 Group 2 cars. I was one of Martin Thomas's mechanics that season and here are a couple things i remember, Martin Birrane's Boss Mustang at Thruxton s Easter meeting, Martin told his mechanics that the oil pressure was dropping when taking Church, possibly due to oil surge and oil moving away from the pick up. So his mechanics taped over the guage so he did not worry about it. Sure enough the engine blew during the race. Martin was convinced his brakes were not working , so we got the man from Girling to check the system and he reported it working correctly. Martin still convinced they did not work raced and use the gears to slow the car down for the Chicanes. The car was brought back on a breakdown Martin claiming the clutch had gone. On stripping the car we found the clutch perfectly ok, but using the gears to slow down had striped all the teeth off of the main gear cluster. If you know the size of the Holman Moody gears this takes some force to strip them down to nothing. Pete |
