I'm sorry to say it is true, He was racing at a Non Championship international meeting at Tallinn in Estonia on a 3.7 mile road course..
He had won the 600cc and 750cc superbike race and was leading the 125cc race when he crashed on Lap 2. This guy was one of the true legends of motorcycle racing and is a sad loss |

I can remember Joey racing in the IoM from his early days in the Southern 100. He was one of the boys and didn't seem to take too quickly to being a works rider, prefering instead to sleep in the back of his van with his bike. This, I believe, is one reason for his popularity. The other reasons are his consistant wins. His loss is total.

Joey Dunlop was a great rider. Especially at the Isle of Mann. He won a record 26 times there. He also had both an OBE and an MBE for humanitarian work that he did.

Where have I been? I was just watching the 500 GP at Donnington when I heard the commentator mention the passing of Joey. I could not believe my ears. I watched him race in the early years. Then on TV in the later at the IOM.
I came straight here to find out if it was true. Unfortunately it is The man has been great for the sport and his Charity work. He is a great loss! But I am sure he would not have wanted it any other way. Doing what he enjoyed. My heart goes out to his family. God speed Joey. Ian |
