A cool vehicle, however I debate the term effeciency. Firstly it isn't defined. However in terms of energy source I am not sure it is that effecient. Ultimately the energy require to propel the vehicle comes from the food the man eats. This sounds very ineffecient to me; and that is ignoring the energy required to make the man in the first place.

watts used
efficiency is a measure of work verse distance?
the charts for power consumed to move the vehicle used to reside on his web page (as recorded by SRM force measuring cranks) to peak at 81 mph takes 650 watts of power ( = .87 HP) to travel 53 miles in one hour requires 275 watts average ( = .37 HP) regardless of where the power comes from the thing goes a looong way on little energy |

I want to have a ride of this 'bent!!!
There, I've said it. I saw it in PopMech a couple of years ago, when I was more into racing trikes like this. I actually have a poster/big photo of this in motion. I love it. Mick |

Surely the amount of energy consumed in moving the vehicle from 0 to 81mph should be measured in units of consumed energy (joules)?
Can't think ok any method of recovering the energy back to 0 though, so KERS does not apply. Should the energy requirement of an MPV be measured in joules, calories or hamburgers? |
