My thoughts:
- it's sad that the Friday-testers will disappeared. - 14 sets of tyres is very much. By far most sets won't be used, but I like it. - engine homologation is still the most stupied rule ever introduced in motor racing. - No engine savings on Friday is a good change. |

The first thing that stands out is the Nascarization of the sport.
A free pass for a lapped car? |

i like the fact that you now get 14 sets of tyres, i disliked the stupid thing about is the driver using new sets for his quali lap or scrubbed sets. People want to know who's fastest not who more tactically aware.
intereresting change to safety car procedure too, you can't enter until all cars are bunched behind the SC, meaning no advantage of getting in a quick pit stop while every is slowed. |

I'd like the FIA to come out with a statement:
'We are retro amending the regulations back 15 years'. |

Of course.
However this seems to mean that the teams can do as much (or more?) running as before and run their third driver if they wish. All teams too. Am I correct here? The role may shift from setting up a car, to being a more general test were new drivers can be tried out. Advantages and disadvantages. |

Three hours of top drivers going at full pelt on an almost limitless amount of tyres, together with throw away engines,on a Friday, should please most i would think.
Nice to see that they have done away with the weight penalties for 2008. Last edited by Marbot; 18 Oct 2006 at 23:53. |

Intresting that BS can supply TWO types of tyre for each race (as they requested). Assume that will be 7 sets of each? At least allows some ebb and flow, depending on which tyres you choose. Can you mix and match - ie start on type A and switch to type B? I hope so - would provide interest, esp if 'option' tyre is clearly marked, as in Champ Car.

Why will the FIA close the pits during SF-periods?

One problem there is. If you have just planned pit stop on lap 25 and SC comes that lap - will you stay out and risk running out of fuel or pit and get some kind of penalty? |

tough call on that one. If it does happen i'm sure the team (s) in question will complain as its a little unfair.
The FIA always seems to answer a question with another question. |

It's certainly interesting to ponder isn't it?
I can see things 2 ways. Teams/drivers will either massively benefit (I.E, stay out front) or massively disadvantage themselves (if fuel strategy is wrong) having to pit. Maybe we'll see teams opting to fuel cars up for the race and just change tyres to limit time delays? Or maybe i've missed the jist of things! On the other hand I have no problem with the SC queue changes. It could mean that a potentially decent scrap at the front won't be interrupted by backmarkers after an SC phase, which is better for us spectators. It's better to look at it like this rather than think: 'oh that's a damn shame that a potentially dominant race leader of a potentially dull race has had his race compromised by this blasted new SC rule...' Having more tyre sets is a good thing so we won't see anybody compromised during the race.
The 2 engine rule might aswell only be applied to the race. Having the same engines till 2010! where is the progress? The safety car idea is good for the spectacle but what if one of the front runners has a bad pit stop and they become lapped and then a safety car comes out? that will bring them back into contention when they dont deserve it. |
