Anyone have the clip of the rally car going over the cliff?
I believe it was last year...it was the scariest moment I have ever witnessed in Rallying. I only caught a glimpse of it in a highlight show. Not sure who it was...maybe Mcrae? It went off while attempting to make a right hander, with a drop off on the left side of the road.

I think you're talking about a privateer 206 that went off in Corsica or San Remo either last year or 2000.

Probably...it was a hatchback style car (that doesn't narrow it down considering modern rally cars!) Luckily, the driver was only mildly banged up I heard.

Its was Corsica last year. The same rally that Makinen had his huge crash.

Hakkiman, you have clips of it? I can't find this thing anywhere! I'm trying to convey to my friends here in the states how dangerous Rallying can be...I think this clip would convince them!

Or go over to wrc.com and check. They used to have a clip of Tommi's barrel roll.

What about Roman Kresta's cliffhanger earlier this year? Saved from a 100 metre drop down the mountainside by a telephone pole...

Yeah, that was ultra cool! It secured Panizzi's place among my personal favourites, that's for sure!

I think that's the one! Thanks Stranger!! R - that was one of the ballsiest and flat out coolest things I have ever seen DURING a race of any kind! I have been searching for that clip ever since it happened. I can't find it anywhere either. I have seen people do donuts to celebrate AFTER a race...but to do it while IN the race was incredible!!!!

kristof14 - my last post was in regard to seeing Panizzi doing the donut during the race...please don't think I was saying the car going over the cliff was "cool"! It was a nasty crash, but that's not what we were referring to.

McRae's accident falling off the cliff was the 2000 Corsica Rally. Tommi had another serious accident this year at the Argentina Rally flipping his Subaru several times and the fan was lucky to escape because otherwise it will be a very bad tragedy for the World Rally guys.

maybe its just me but that crash where the privateer logged some time for his p[ilots license could only prove how safe rallying is as both of the crew were virtually unscathed!
Another example was achim mortl on the rally deutscheland this year. opened up the whole side of his car and was only grazed by flying glass i am told... by the way, did you know that rallying is stastically safer than fishing. |
