Pirelli World Challenge Rounds 10 & 11: Detroit

Belle Isle is up next for PWC GT and GTA.

Hopefully it's a solid brace of races without major issues. Been a lot of issues with the series lately, it would be great to see them resolved. The awesome GT3 cars make this a great series to watch, but all the negatives have been sucking the fun out of it.

COTA was a great set of races, and there have been some good ones since, it would be good to see Detroit go more along the lines of that.

Looks like Renger van der Zande will fill in for Ryan Dalziel at EFFORT for Detroit:

So this round is just GT/GTA and none of the Porsche Cup cars? Will be interested to see how this plays out as far as on track action goes.

Having a standalone GT Cup race with 10-15 Porsches would be a waste.

I'm in favor of the alternative option to merge GT Cup with GTS. Without the Porsche money, GTS wouldn't have it's own races to begin anyway.

fully under the $$ factor, I'm just not a huge fan of the class at all and wouldn't be surprised/hope for it to get kicked out of GT

So they are trying to make it more like the Blancpain series? Seems unnecessary to have this and their normal 1 driver 50 minute races.

Very interesting. This could be a really cool addition to the stand alone weekends... if there are enough entries. More racing is always welcome! Perhaps once this sprint+pitstop format becomes established, PWC might consider trying to add a GT3 endurance event.

The forecast looks like rain tomorrow. Should they even throw the green or just have them draw straws?

With no GT Cup, the races will be caution free. I keep reading how GT Cup needs to be moved somewhere else because they cause cautions in the GT race. These two races will be a good example of how GT Cup probably needs to be moved to the GTS race.

Except there's been carnage from the GT and GTA classes too, maybe everyone should have their own race?

I see that James Sofronas is entered in the GMG Audi R8 LMS, but didn't see any practice times listed for him. Does anyone know if he's even there? The GMG Audi R8 LMS for David Welch is there however.

From PWC's website:

Of note, James Sofronas, of Pound Ridge, N.Y. will not race at Detroit due to a shop injury suffered this past weekend.

KPax Flying Lizard McLarens each led a practice, but it sounds like the rain limited track time today, and it looks like the times were close. Could be anybody's races:

Seems not, all the links for streaming just go to youtube video advertising the fact its being broadcast live...

Confirmed by Flying Lizards that only live coverage will be CBS.

PWC sure know how to make it easy for the viewers.

Now here is the dilemma - would I prefer a couple of spectacular races that I will only be able to watch highlights of, or do I want two marred races that push me further towards not bothering with the series?
