Problems, problems...
Is it just me or is every other team having freely admitting to having problems and writing off their chances of winning the first GP (if not the whole championship).
Ferrari's "run out of time" for the F2002 and is using a (heavily modified) F2001 but TGF has said they won't win the Oz GP Mclaren apparently has problems with the Mercedes engine Williams apparently has a (relatively???) average chassis Jordan's not doing particularly well in testing, and Honda has problems with their engine BAR apparently has no problems but despite that still "needs to improve"; we all know what that means Jaguar has sacked another load of people and Irv in the last year of his contract is getting fed up again Toyota is just slow. The only teams which I haven't heard much about are Sauber, Renault, Arrows and Minardi, either because they are doing well in testing or they haven't done much testing. |

Oz is often a race of attrition with a surprise winner.
Given that the technical regs haven't changed much since last season for the first time in ages, I think that these modest forecasts are a smoke screen. Maybe we're in for an interesting season. Maybe the quick and reliable Saubers can through a surprise our way? Maybe pigs can fly? |

If you take the comments seriously, it'll be a Minardi 1-2 at the end of it all.

I think the teams are being honest. However, I feel if the drivers are too content with the cars, then they are not driving them hard enough!

Not quite the sort of impression you want to give to your team, whether it's raining or not

I am sorry, but IMHO, that is one seriously ugly paint scheme on that Arrows.
As for problems, you would expect there to be lots of them, I suppose that's why they call it testing. All of the teams have developed the skill of disseminating dis-information, some make it an art form. Testing can't tell you too much detail, just give you a general feel for the progress, or lack of it if you're Jaguar, of each team. I'd be very surprrised to hear Frank or Jean Todt state that they were going to kick some ass this year, even if they thought it were the case. |
