Matsuura in at Super Aguri Fernandez

http://www.hondaracing.com/press/releases.html?r=1018

Its official

Quote:
Super Aguri Fernández Racing today announced that 24-year-old Kosuke Matsuura of Aichi, Japan, will pilot its #55 Panasonic ARTA Honda-powered Panoz G Force/Firestone entry in the 2004 IRL IndyCar Series.
That pretty much means Roger Yasakawa is out.

a shame for Yasakawa , I thought he did well enough to warrant another year.
lets wait and see what Matsuura can do then , either way I wish him well.

Can't understand the logic behind that. Roger Yasukawa came in with minimal oval experience and improved as the season went on. He was heavily backed by Honda (at the expense of established, reasonably competitive Shinji Nakano), as he was good for the American and Japanese markets, and seemed set for a bright future. Now they've axed him and brought in a guy with no experience, who's clearly going to struggle early in the season.

I think it's great news - Kosuke is a lovely guy and very quick too!

Since Super Aguri, Panasonic, and ARTA project are all Japanese money (not North American division), my guess is Yasakawa was simply too American and not Japanese enough.

Could be sgw2. It's quite a sad situation where IRL is losing American drivers so quickly. Yasukawa, both Laziers, Unser and sadly Renna are all rideless, Foyt 4 is only in due to his grandfather's naivity, and the top teams are hiring from all around the world. It may be that CARt will have more North Americans than the IRL this year.

Unser still has a chance, if Patrick's team is formed. Yasukawa still has backing from Honda I've heard, and Greg
Ray's (Honda powered) team is intestested in a second car...

Interestingly, Matsuura's signing seems to have opened a rift between Adrian and Aguri, and the former may pull his involvement from the team, probably concentrating on a 2-car CART effort but perhaps entering the IRL on his own, although I guess without Honda or Roger.

Boots,

Renna isn't rideless ...

There are 9 Americans are confirmed amongst the 19 entries, half with good rides (Herta, Barron, Hornish, Sharp and Rice anyway). Most of the rest are English speaking Commonwealthers (Dixon, Franchitti, Wheldon, Manning, Scheckter, Taylor). This is about where OW was at the time of the split.

There wont be a CART in any form, ISC will see to that. If ISC beats IMS to the best pieces then LBGP and the Canadian races will be Grand-Am, and OW will be pretty much shut out of road racing in North America. OWRS has neither the pockets, nor the credibility of ISC and so they cannot win a bidding war. Its over.

In my book, thats a pretty good mix of drivers, that should satisfy most people.

Sgw2, don't you think there would be a chance, that GARRA would be a support race to the IRL, on the LBGP and the other races?

I'm not sure GARRA, on its own, would draw enough fans to support those races. Any chance?
