Penske will not go to French. What about Risi?

I think Risi will go with at least 1 car. Their 2006 website had LM down on the "prospective" schedule of races that they'd take part in, with the proviso "subject to invitation by the ACO" .....

The other thing I picked up from DSC is that Petersen / White Lightning who won GT2 at PLM don't seem to have got an automatic entry, the reason for this is not clear, did they somehow fail post-race post-race technical checks? So that's where the 2nd Risi Competizione entry comes from.

Something to do with local IMSA peformance balancing maybe? I seem to remember reading somewhere that only cars complying with full ACO regs and running their proper weights and restrictor sizes would be eligible for Le Mans 24 preselection. But don't quote me on that – just a guess!

DSC also note that this preliminary list of those invited has been released by the ACO a month earlier than the equivalent list for the 2006 race. We had a lengthy debate on here recently with regard to the selection process for Le Mans. Part of that debate centred on the short lead in time for teams who, if they had known sooner, would have had more time to find the necessary funding for their respective programmes. Traditionally, the last few invites are made by the ACO post Sebring, but, with the early release of this list, could we see things done slightly differently in 2007?

I am a bit confused over the Audi Sport NA entry for the ALMS championship as they used an R8 for part of the season. Should not those points be deducted as the R8 was not eligible under any ACO regs--in a similar way the Aston Martin did not comply with the regs at Petit etc etc. |

Mariantic, you are totally correct. It looks like the R8 only ran for three races. The R10 did score enough points for the championship win.
On the other hand, the ACO did give give entries where performance balancing was implemented (Aston Martin Racing 2nd ALMS) suggesting that if Dyson had been victorious in the LMP1 championship, they would have received and entry despite running at a weight less than 925 kg. The only exception was entries relating to the PLM result. |

"A: We get the same questions. Le Mans is a completely different kettle of fish. It's a That's a decision that Porsche has to make. 24-hour race, and it's a huge expense. We haven't raced there since the 1970s with the Ferrari 512. I'd love to go back. But again with the cost of racing today and the availability of sponsorships and only being able to run in LMP2, I don't think we'd be ready to go until we could challenge for leadership in LMP1. I'm not indicating whether we're going or not going. It's really not my decision. It's up to Wolfgang Durheimer, the Porsche board and management, and the motorsports department." Looks like Mr Penske is very clear here. If the LM 24 is to be, PORSCHE MUST PAY FOR IT. I like the symmetry in GT2.
2 Porsches, 2 Panoz and 2 Ferrari's. Lets hope for 2 Spyker's, plus the Ecosse 430....... |

TWR must be able to pull some big strings if they hope for an invite in 2007 for their new TVR.

Not seen this anywhere else on TT and picked it up on club arnage, sorry if its hidden away somewhere else, but the ACO have granted 4 more auto entrys. I wonder if the team will be tempted. They have until the 8th of Jan to decide I think. |

Well I think we can rule out Vitaphone making a appearance, unless of course the ACO have a sudden change of heart and give the MC12 some sort of special dispensation to be able to run at the event. Assuming of course that this wont happen it looks like Phoneix racing will get their entries. A bit of a shame, id really love to see the MC12's at Le Mans.

Common sense if you ask me. After all the FIA GT Championship is the only other major sportscar racing series that runs to ACO/FIA regulations. I remember a couple of years ago that the ACO announced that the class winners and runners up from GT and NGT would get automatic entries for Le Mans also. For some reason this was dropped for a couple of years though. Perhaps the ACO could be going back to this idea? Sure its not a official rule at the moment but maybe it could be for the 2007 season.
