So what if you would just like to claim those extra points avaible this year. Who would be winning? Which drvier has benefitted most by the number of scoring positions being increased. 2 points for 7th, 1 point for 8th!

Would there be any difference in championship standings if last years points system was still being used?
I know its a little pointless (no pun intended) but may be interesting.

Thank you very much for taking the time to do this. It is interesting.

It seems, with regards the top teams, it shows who has ****ed up now and then. With the smaller teams, who has upped their game somewhat/stayed the same but earned points thanks to new system.

I still want the old one back, but I have come to accept that, with regards to F1, contrary to all other aspects of my life and mind I can currently think of, I am very much a conservative traditionalist of the modern era.

What would be the standing with the old system now? That would be an interesting question. I think TGF would be way ahead, but of course I did not calculate just assume.

2) K.Raikkonen 39pts
3) JP Montoya 23pts
etc...

A 9 point lead is larger than what he has under the current system, but its hardly comfortable.

Another way to consider the impact of the new points system. For this year there are 2pts more on offer for places 2-7 and 1 more for finishing 8th. Consider the difference between the number of points a driver has scored this year and how many he would have scored under 10-6-4-3-2-1:

5= Montoya 8
5= Coulthard 8
5= Trulli 8
8= Webber 6
8= M.Schumacher 6 (54-48)
10 Button 5
11 Frentzen 4
12= da Matta 2
12= J.Villeneuve 2
14= Panis 1
14= Heidfeld 1
14= Firman 1
So Ralf would seem to be the main beneficiary of the new system with points in every race and 7 of those finished between 2nd and 7th. Raikkonen has benefitted more than MS and so Michael's championship lead is smaller.

RS wouldn't have scored in every race this year if we were using the old points system so it has benefited him a bit.
