Ian, I've had a 350d for a while now and have been very happy with it, I've got the 18-55 lens that came with the camera and a 75-300 - those two have served me well. The camera is capable of far more than I am Assuming this is for your personal use not for professional then there really is nothing wrong with the 350d (if you're looking at professional then the 10D and 20D are more popular). It's also fairly resilient - it's had a bit of a soaking at the WTCC meeting at Brands and Combe rallyday and it's put up with that very well I really wouldn't reccomend testing it's waterproofness (not a word but who cares!) any further though.

Bert thank you - thats the Package I am looking at, and I am informed the Canon 200mm Lens my son-in-law has for his old Canon EOS non-digital will fit and work well with the 350d body - I am not by any stretch of anyones imagination any where near professional, but I have the bug and my canon Ixus3 ( good as it is) is now restricting my desire to take better pictures

Sounds pretty good. I wouldn't expect to be a brilliant performer trackside, but it should be more than adequate.

I am in the market for Canon EOS 350D Digital Rebel XT Digital SLR. I have been reading expert reviews and that has been useful to me. It may be help you too. I had been using PCWorld.com, cnet.com to find reviews. Yesterday I used PriceGrabber’s expert review tab (http://www.pricegrabber.com/info_exp...sterid=7139451)
and found a site (www.smartratings.com) that aggregates expert reviews. It only covers a few categories but it is pretty neat. Just my $.02.

I have a 350D, and its excellent, but I would also consider its replacementm the 400D. Increased pixels, now 10 million I belive, and the screen is bigger too.
Whichever you choose, also consider the battery pack. Not only gives improved/longer shooting power, but adds some some bulk to this otherwise small camera.

The 10D & 20D are now both "obsolete" so you could do worse than buy a used one of either of those

The 350D and new 400D are highly capable cameras. High quality images wont be a problem, being 8 and 10mp respectively. As long as you use decent lenses there's no reason not to expect good results.
