2014 BTCC Oulton Park (Rds 10-12)

I suppose someone should start this thread...

...Belcher will be back, as will Holland, whilst Ollie Jackson should be as well, so everyone should have to check their mirrors!

Knowing Oulton Park there will probably be a mad race 3, and maybe (weather pending) some teammates may hit each other.

On a more informative note, 888 were dominant here last year with the MG, but Honda's new tourer (which is really an estate) and a more developed WSR BMW may be able to pose a threat, along with the reigning champion Andy Jordan, who has been brilliant again. This was the scene of his last avoidable incident in 2012 with Rob Collard (unless someone can recall a later incident!), and he'll probably do his normal trick of being one of the fastest if not the fastest drivers out there whilst keeping out of trouble. Do not be surprised if he extends his championship lead.

Others to watch out for are the VW Passat CCs of Áron Smith and Alain Menu, both of whom are very capable drivers, as the break may have benefitted their cars, but could've seen them drop back, Jack Goff, because he's very good and in a decent car, the Motorbase cars of Mat Jackson and Gio, as things were improving at Thruxton, Adam Morgan, because you generally have to watch out for him, not only for his pace, but for the odd incident (although they are getting rarer) and Rob Austin for obvious reasons.

So hopefully we'll see a good clean racing weekend at Oulton Park. Enjoy.

PS Sorry for you lot who have to read this!

Looking forward to this - hopefully almost full grid, full track layout, chance of rain over the weekend. Additionally, ITV4 will be broadcasting the Super Touring Car Championship races as part of the deal. This weekend should be a real highlight.

I have also read that ITV will stream the Saturday Super-touring race online, right after qualifying...

The championship so far:

After two close rounds, Thruxton was a good weekend for Jordan. Without wanting to sound mean, hopefully Oulton isn't!

This should be brilliant... really looking forward to that... as well as the contemporary BTCC event of course.

So the job's been done, and they'll almost inevitably have another one to do on that car during the weekend!

It sounds like there could be some 'spectacular thunderstorms' passing through the area tomorrow. Will be interesting, provided they're not too heavy to cause a stoppage in proceedings...

The grid would be decided by using the times for the corresponding race at the previous meeting. In instances where this is not possible (e.g. if some drivers were not present), the order for these would be decided by drawing lots.

I was thinking about going today to oulton, even with the bad weather forecasts. However the outlook is looking more and more grim. I fear the rain will be so heavy there will be little running, so it breaks my heart a little, but I won't be attending now at all, because I can't make Sunday due to a Sunday BBQ commitment.

That I agree with. It's one of those accidents that is so rare that you don't really have to think about it when designing safety. The barriers there absorbed the impact well, and the car was strong enough for Gallagher to be fine. There really is no need, and I can almost guarantee you that there will be no accidents that bad during the BTCC weekend.

Exciting last few minutes - Turkington pole, all 3 MGs in the top ten, Rob Austin and Tom Ingram in there too. Enjoyed hearing the commentators talking nonsense about NGTC boats waiting for the SuperTCC... how nice is it to see those cars on track?

Shame they have the yellow window numbers, but you can't have it all

Was that Super Touring race good or what ! Wouldn't it be brilliant if they were a permanent feature on the support package.

The super Touring race was epic, although thanks to ITV's website I missed about a quarter of the race due to buffeting.

This one-off race reminds of the 2004 Masters Race (I was there!)

Great to see Colin on pole after a topsy turvey session and using the BMW's strength round here to the maximum advantage.

Hey if you can't eat at a sensible time, then how is that ITV's fault?
