Betting
Ive never been a fan of betting on horse racing, or the like, however I am starting to get keen in putting some money in formula one.
Latley, Michael Schumachers current ods are: 1-3. The question I have is, if I put one dollar on; Kimi DC Trulli Alonso Button Sato Rubens; the current ods dictate that if a driver other then Michael wins the GP - the worst you could do is break even. (Button is 7-1 odds). If I put 100 dollars on Schumacher, Id get back 133 dollars. Has anyone been much of a fan of betting? I am yet undecided about gambling on f1, as I have just turned 18. |

Any particular reason? Is it illegal? Against the spirit of motor racing? What?

As long as you keep your bets under 6 figures each you should be right

You might be interested to see how my predictions have gone so far this season. You might be surprised how difficult it is to bet on F1.
www.theprancinghorse.co.uk/misc_betting.html But if you take a look at my predictions for the British GP this weekend, I did very well! http://www.theprancinghorse.co.uk/ne...l/2004/18.html Alex |

Some important persons in F1 like to bet, so why you not?
Todt bets in every GP that RB will not end ahead of MS. DC bets every season about he will win the title. Every year Briatore bets Bernie will retire (and he will be chosen) Villeneuve bets in every minute that MS is going to stop and retire. Alain Prost bets from time to time that Ron Dennis will call him to do a Lauda and take a 5th title. Ok, most of them lose their money, but I suppose it must be fun. |

I sometimes have a little wager on the races - but only when the odds are clearly favourable on a certain car. This happens when, like last year in Hungary, the status quo in the championship leads most people to assume that a certain car will keep on winning but at the same time a particular other car is especially well suited to the track (like the Renault was in this example). I made a little profit on Jenson Button at Bahrain this year the same way. |

To make gambling worth while you have to either bet on an outsider or put down a hell of alot of money to get very little back. Why bet on Michael to win a race at 2/5? Its not really worth it at the moment.
Some guy according to Ladbrokes put £4000 on a Renault to win the British GP. Alex |

Plus in an F1 race there are 20 'runners', plus you are betting against mechanical failure, penalties,Williams in tunnels etc... just to get your runner home. That makes F1 a fairly unattractive bet. |

F1 used to be a better bet than other sports if you were an enthusiast. The bookies who set the odds weren't that knowledgeable. IMO this has changed in the last few years and they are pretty much spot on.
I find the best bets tend to be people getting a podium or a long term bet at the beginning of the season about the championship. |

Really, I don't see the point in betting if the odds aren't at least a gamble, something like 1/5 - whats the point?!
Take me England - Crotia game last month, odds of 40/1 on England winning 4-2, so I put a fiver on it! Just to teach me not to bet, my car cost my EXACT winnings to fix later that week... |

The best to go for at the moment is guessing the pole position. My betting site have just under 2/1 on Schumi getting pole and then 2nd favourite shoots up (Barrichello) to 6/1 then Kimi 8/1 right upto Montoya at 25/1. Those odds were based on Friday's practice at the Brtiish GP.
My betting site also offers head to heads and predicting if the car will finish or not. So its abit better than just predicting the winner or pole. Alex |
