Rainproof Camera cover - where from?
Hi folks
I'm looking for a rainproof/showerproof camera and lens cover. it's to go on an IST D with sigma 70-200 f2.8. I still want to be able to operate the zoom and controls so there needs to be access to the camera. Any suggestions? |

I recently aquired a Storm Jacket cover http://www.stormjacket.com/ - this works well - its merely a waterproof cover with elasticated ends - one end wider than the other but it definately works - shame I had to order it from the USA though - could not find anything similar at sensible prices here in UK.

it does look like a simple but good bit of kit - not perfect but definitely better than nothing.

I used a bicycle cape at Silverstone last weekend. I wrapped the head hole around the lens hood and operated the camera under the cape with my head inside. It was a bit of a lash-up, but it made me start thinking about a more permanent arrangement. I will keep an eye on this thread, and if I come up with a brilliant idea - I'll patent it and flog you one!

Olympus E-1 is the way...
Mine was running out there in the rain, no bother. No covers, plastic bags, nothing. Bargain bucket territory for the body right now. Cameta on ebay are listing an E-1 with accessory battery pack for just about £300... OK, the glass ain't cheap, but then any good glass is expensive? Tim |

Check out http://www.warehouseexpress.com/
I purchased some water proof covers from them and they have been brilliant. needed them this year too, I could still shoot at Brands hatch WTCC even though it chucked it down with no problems. Best investment I've ever made! |

I'm still very loathe to take any risks at all - I still remember the mould on one of my early lenses, 20-odd years ago....

Yeah, that's ok for light showers, or short periods of time, but in heavy, continous rain you need something more substantial.

Consider this item on e-Bay . Will ship to UK, $US1 = ~ £0.58.
For more information, "Google" FotoSharp or inquire (enquire) direct on e-Bay. Insert standard disclaimer - I am passing this on as a reference. |

I purchased the C40.5 Camera Cover and the C40 2.5 Lens Cover. If you go to "Photographic -> Camera/Lens Covers -> All makes" you'll find them in there. They have worked wonders. I hardly ever used my camera in the rain before them, very scared. I also didn't want to put a make shift whatever over it either! These covers are perfect. Durable, tight fit and defintly waterproof! Aye there is some good stuff on that website. |

do those covers still let you get at the zoom ring on the camera easily? or is it a bit tight?

The zoom ring is a bit tight, but nothing complicated. It just needs a bit more grip thats all. Small price to pay really...

I don't use a rain cover, rather I clamp a large vented umbrella to my monopod. It is a little ackward to move around, but it keeps me and the camera dry and you can open the camera to change cards without worrying

[QUOTE] I bought these from Wildlife Watching Supplies, received them a day later and i'm very impressed can't decide if i get the smaller version of the lens cover as well for my shorter lens or just bunch up the long one - but seems like a top bit of kit |
