I can't work out what or who he is blaming for this. He's not offering any solutions, either.

The FIA is who he is blaming.
The solution, presumably, is to go back to the way it used to be. Sadly, this is now impossible. |

He's right to bemoan the state of the WRC. It is dull in comparison with even the recent past. I do think that someone with his standing should be prepared to come up with something more than a moan though. Sainz is a highly respected man and was a great driver so perhaps he could devise a blueprint for the future? I've got a great idea why not have a rally of Great Britain that actually visits Great Britain rather than a small corner of Wales.

Most fans are almost ready to accept that it's too difficult in the modern day to have a rally like that. In any case on a modern stage you can see the cars twice rather than just once. Fans are very vocal in their whinging these days, thanks to the internet. |

Sainz has a point, but as noted doesn't present much in the way of alternatives/improvements. Then again nor do I...

Personally I'd like to see a return to 2 wheel drive with a more production based spec. It would be good to see longer events with more stages and no pace notes.
Speeds would be reduced by the above changes as would the damage done to forest tracks by 4 wheel drive and the element of endurance would come into it. I don't see why we can't have this type of event in the modern day. I do wonder about progress. When I was growing up there were the Apollo missions, the Harrier jump jet and Concorde to get excited about. Now we seem to concentrate on what we can't do. |
