Test Track

F1 needs a new test track! In a horrendous winter for motorsport Barcelona & Jerez have been closed, Mugello is out of action due to 4 feet of snow & the weather is due to get worse! Bernie has turned his back on F1 & with it has banned all F1 testing at Paul Ricard (which he owns)! Just to make matters even worse Silverstone is being revamped with too much building work going on for the circuit to be used for testing & Ferrari have decided that the won't let any other teams use Fiorano! Not a great winter! Therefore, in order to save F1 any of these problems from happening again you must build the best track ever. This is a track to be used soley for testing: no racing will happen here so few grandstands are needed. The track will be located in Morocco, not much further south than Spain, but slightly warmer so even better for testing.
Your track MUST contain at least 3 different layouts of track. 1 for high-downforce testing, 1 for low downforce testing & 1 for medium downforce testing.
Easy!! However, there is a sting in the tail! This year F1 will be using both of the bottom 2 banked corners at Indy as a new circuit layout has been approved that uses much of the back stretch, with no chicanes to slow cars through the last 2 corners. To enable cars to test in these conditions & to prevent another Indy-gate you must include at least 2 very fast banked corners somewhere on your track!

To recap you will need:
.1 each of fast, medium & slow layouts
.2 very fast banked corners

How hard can that be! Have fun!

Yes, Kyalami could be an option, but it has been an option for testing for a long time now & even when the grand prix was still being held there very few teams would test there as it was just too far from their European bases.

Bahrain, Istanbul, Qatar, you name it - there's several tracks within reach that are good test tracks .

Buenos Aires, Kuala Lumpur. Although those tracks are a bit expensive, travel-wise. Teams'd rather test a bit closer to home.

Saw that track & am not at all impressed. Yes it does allow for street testing in that 1 section but what is going on with the rest of that track!? It is dull & boring, almost all corners look like being medium speed or slow corners. We don't need another Jarama! If that was what F1 really wants then it should test at Jarama. However, if F1 does use it for testing then the future of F1 at Valencia isn't looking good as that is where they currentlydo most of their slow, twisty track testing.

Oh, i don't like that much at all, way too many slow corners. Infact, if those infield sections would be removed and/or not used the track would be way better, but that's just my opinion, i like fast tracks...

How do you like my attempt?

to Alwaysfirst: A high downforce circuit doesn't need to be slow.
You need a lot of downforce when there are many fast corners (150-250km/h).

Since when have you needed a lot of downforce (comparatively) for a circuit with many fast corners. At the old Hockenheim there were looooong straights but most of the corners were very slow. Cars still ran with very low downforce. It doesn't really matter about what speed the corners are, concerning set up. What does make the difference is how much time the car would loose on the straights. Therefore a very high downforce circuit will have very few fast corners eg Monaco, Hungaroring.

One word regarding high or low downforce circuits: balance. If the straights are long enough to give you an advantage running low downforce compared to the slow corners (like the old Hockenheim), you run low downforce. And vice versa.

Please save your files in GIF or JPEG they use alot less memory and take less time to upload and take less time for all the poor users to veiw.

Here's my effort. There is a much more detailed version on the way soon (or at least as detailed as I can get it in Paint!)

& here's the detailed version! As you can see I have included an airstrip & hangers (similar to Paul Ricard) to make getting to the track that bit easier for teams. There are also 4 helipads & 2 fully enclosed, vip grandstands, for the teams to entertain all of their sponsors in! In the paddock there is a medical centre, media centre, a conference centre for more corporate events & 4 permanent workshops, for teams doing more work to their cars than basic set-up changes!

This would be the track that would set new targets in acessibility, safety, facilities, working space & versatility for all new test tracks! Hope you like it!

Hey guys.

I made an attempt on this a week or so ago.
Thought I'd finally get around to posting it!
Goes anti-clockwise from startline (i.e. first corner is the fast left hander)
