Figure rather than fun the IMSA 2020 thread I'll start a Petit thread, sorry no fancy fact filled opening post though.

Entry list is the usuals.
Entry list notes from IMSA. https://www.imsa.com/news/2020/10/12...petit-le-mans/ Schedule starts late this year with only an open test tomorrow afternoon for Michelin Pilot Cup and Prototype Challenge. All the official sessions start Thursday. 3 Porsche Challenge races this weekend. https://www.imsa.com/events/motul-petit-le-mans/ Weather looks to be the perfect fall week with cool temps in the mornings. |

Mainly going to this one to avoid attending zero races this calendar year.
Hopefully they get rid of the bop for this race. It's not real racing otherwise. And the Ford GT actually comes back this time. And they finally allow the GT3 cars to race unrestricted. And reverse grid. And no safety car. And they combine the challenge support races. And then run the old back stretch. Not real racing otherwise. |

This is just mid season, there's still TransAm the week before Thanksgiving as well. But I don't have kids and their footie schedule

So we've heard a GT4 McLaren decided to exit the track mid session today in testing. Oh, he left at 6, entered the woods and went 250' or so it to the tree line. Driver walked away but wow, expect a withdraw from the GS ranks.

I'd like to find out but sounds like it somehow launched into the tires which then propelled it over and out. They apparently had to cut down a half dozen trees to get it out. Maybe a stuck throttle?
And I just left T6 20 mins earlier.... |

I was thinking stuck throttle too because it sounds like it was carrying a ton of speed. Six is a fairly low speed corner.
Glad to hear the driver is ok! |

Cars on track, it is cool with an occasional mist in the air. Forecast says it's sunny. Oh well.

Ah, the night humidity.
The sparks from the GTD cars over the apex curb of 3 are flying already. Lexus runs about 10'of sparks slamming the splitter Edit-Hindy's right. The Riley AMG makes a HELLA spark show as well. And 2 and 3 both now for the Riley Last edited by broadrun96; 15 Oct 2020 at 23:43. |

Night practice might be the best non race activity of the year. It is super dark from turn 1 to 3, and lots of sparks, and glowing rotors. Oh not to mention the sound is absolutely deafening there.
With restricted access to the paddock this year we couldn't get down to pit out like normal where you can almost touch the cars, but we still were close enough tonight to feel the cars go by. |

What's not the greatest is a 3 hour LMP3 race, but it beats the crap outta not having one and not being at the track!

Yeah, fastest lap is just faster than GTLM at 1:16. Next season's car should be clear of this year's GTLM times but not by much. Radio estimated a could seconds a lap faster with the new car so maybe 1:13s for the fastest guys

Then again. The GTLM guys tore it up in qualifying today. Pole time 1 min 15.1 for the Corvette. Wow.

And none of the GTLM cars were facing in the wrong direction. That P3 race was a long mess but the shenanigans at T3 towards the end was kinda fun to watch from the front row.

The GS guys made in 10 minutes before a brand new car was destroyed at the bridge. New Archangel Volt Aston ripped front corner off trying to pass for first FCY of the day. Wheel and suspension removed from the car and hit the Ford Performance Driving Mustang

We joked about driving standards in the pc race earlier, but these guys haven't had 5 laps of green in 40 minutes
