Renault-Nissan V6 World series Unified!

Well it seem the big manufacturer has taken note there are too many single seaters and other series running so Renault and Nissan are merging the NPWS and Formula Renault V6
(autoweek.com)

What are the ramifications to other series and ladders in existance? will this send waves of acknowledgement, and like thinking to other series?
and what about the grids? will they now be ultra massive (the new series will be run on dallara chassis with the Corporate V6 in the car apparently.)
how will this affect the upcomers and world talent pools?

It'd be a brilliant idea if Renault wasnt going to screw it up with GP2. They're now only going to hurt their own series. Way to go kids.

I can see why RENAULT /NISSAN are combining your 2 series in north america, RENAULT being the parent company of both , and with RENAULT wanting to return to the US market ,they will want all their marketing resourses in one series.. This is a very big plunge for them .They really do have to re build their image in yout market place...

This isn't in North America.

He's talking about FRV6 being scrapped, and Dallara Nissan being renamed Dallara Renault.

The same reasons will probably apply.. The dominant name is RENAULT , so one series is in their best corporate interest of which to them is most important, the competitors are on the end of the chain.....

This is from the official press release:

Quote:
As far as the single seater’s future is concerned, the World Series Light (250bhp) will be phased out to make way for the Formula Renault 2000 (196bhp), of which nearly 500 units have already been sold throughout the world. The World Series (450bhp) and Formula Renault V6 (370bhp) will be replaced by a new and redesigned race car producing 420bhp, and based on the current Dallara chassis. As far as the engine is concerned, the New FRV6 will use a new version of that of the WSN, with similar characteristics.

However, the end of the Eurocup Formula Renault V6 in 2005 does not spell the end of the road for the car. Far from it. Development will continue, particularly ahead of the North American Formula Renault V6 championship, which itself is scheduled to begin in 2005.
So Renault will have set a new road to F1, every category will give you a major increase in BHP.

Formula Renault 1600 (114bhp) -> Formula Renault 2000 (196bhp) -> World Series by Renault (420bhp) -> GP2 (600bhp)-> Formula 1 (800+ bhp)

But if F1 brings in a 2.4l V8 it'll still be getting at least 700bhp, and in a car which aerodynamically will be quicker than a GP2.

Renault are making a sensible move - we've all been saying for ages there are too many single seater ladder categories.

At the end of this year F3000 will be replaced by GP2, World Series and FRV6 will be merged.

All we need now is for the people behind the Euro 3000 series to scrap it and we'll have a quite sensible and clear situation.

With Renault showing a map to F1, will it have any effect on Formula 3?

Could more drivers/Teams move from F3 -> Renault series?

well...for now they keep putting drivers in Formula 3 instead of Formula Renault 2000.

I think the step between F. Renault 2000 and WorldSeries/GP2 is still too much, so 1 or 2 years in F3 are quite usefull.

For example Giedo van der Garde, RDD driver, went from karting to Formula Renault 2000. He is now in the F3 Euroseries driving for an Opel-team, but still being backed by Renault (so are his teammates).

Renault's idea is that a driver can either stay on the Renault ladder all the way - or do F3 in between F Renault 2000 and the World Series.

They say the World Series is to "bridge the gap from F3 to GP2"

I'm not convinced that gap exists - but with FRV6 being scrapped they'll probably have enough drivers to go round.

with higher power, V6WorldNissanWhatever will be faster than F3. Based on all the specs, I think you could go 2litres, V6whatever, F1

GP2 is still and will always be irrelevant

I wonder if its a reverse PR plan. So that in 5 years from now they can claim half the F1 grid are there by Renault's good graces.

Every Formula Renault press release boasts about Kimi and Massa, and amusingly Baumgartner

Is not the thinking from Renault that a driver will be able to go from a 180HP FRenault, (by-pass the 220HP F3, which is very similar to FRenault) to this new Dallara Renault 400HP class, then to the 600HP GP2 and from there, if proposed rule changes take effect, it won't be as massive a leap to F1 as it is now?

That doesn't actually make the GP2 car irrelevant ... in fact with the proposed F1 changes, it may even make the GP2 a more technologically advanced car than F1? And decent length races would be a help to a driver's fitness and stamina too, rather than the sprint races we see in FRenault and F3

The GP2 won't be more technologically advanced than F1, even with the changes.

Incidentally - it might be worth trying to get your son into the 400hp Renault series rather than F3 next year.

I still think some sort of F3000/GP2/Nissan/V6 blend, on GP weekends with some SRW dates would have been best.

But at least the number of different series is being cut so that should help.

We still need Euro 3000 to be canned though.

Aye, what is the point of Euro3000? Isn't 1 failing F3000 Championship enough? Although Euro3000 gets bigger grids!...i think

Grids in Euro 3000 are 16-18.

In FIA F3000 it's 18.

But a lot of the guys behind about 10th on the grid in Euro 3000 are pretty-much amateurs.

so i guess the new ranulat ladder is actually a clear and well thought easy to follow road to success?
why other manufacturers don't see the logic here escapes me
but an all onemake series does hvae the benfit of claiming itself as world champion... as renault will be the GP2winning engine again and again...
