Demise of McLaren

Are we witnessing the demise of McLaren? I don't remember the McLarens not getting above the third row at all - can anyone remember? This is not a fluke - I think Williams have pushed McLaren into the third rung of F1 as of today.

economy_waffle should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
well, dont write em' off yet. i mean all teams have bad years, it just might be that 2002 will be a better year for them. remember, with a bloomin good contract for adrian newey, it just might be that he will design a car next year that will blow the field away. its always the same when a team has a bad year. i say: if a team has 2 bad years, then its time to speculate.

They definitely are not the class of the field this season, but do seem to perform better in the races than during qualifying. DC has also once again out qualified Hakkinen-so much for the past consensus that the Finn is the faster driver. Not only has the balance among the teams shifted, but the balance within McLaren has shifted as well.

I know this is slightly off topic, but what the hell you only live once, hey. This is my list of "goodness of teams 2001"(I mean solely in terms of the speed of the car);

1. Ferrari
2. Williams
3. McLaren
4. Jordan
5. Sauber
6. BAR
7. Arrows
8. Jag
9. Prost
10. Benneton
11. Minardi

ozywoodwards, I agree entirely with that list you made. Williams certainly are the second team now. But McLaren will be back..

Maximum F1 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
The Monaco circuit is one of the hardest overtaking circuits on the calender, yet DC travelled up from 22nd (effectively) on the grid to 5th, now I think with that in mind it's hard to write them off just because of today's qualifying performance. In my opinion the bridgestones will be better tomorrow and i think provided Montoya doesn't mess things up...McLaren will be in with a very good chance.

You could be right - just wait a couple more races, or maybe even today's race will tell us which is the strongest team.
Also, I don't think this is slightly off topic at all - I think this is a good point.
