Moffats coming, Moffats coming...
Guys,
The great Allan Moffat OBE is on his way to a tyre centre near you. On Tuesday evening it is a tyre centre near me. I can hardly wait! The hero of my boyhood! The one and only true believer in the blue oval faith (let's leave the Mazda years out of it for simplicity's sake). The eight times Bathurst champion (OK so I doubled it!). Don't worry if ya can't make it, I'll take photos. |

If you buy some tyres, will he fit them for you?

Sure, A & A Tyres, in Coffs, between 4 and 5 pm on Tuesday next. I just hope I can get there. I know it's pathetic, but he was THE childhood hero.

Might be a bit early for me cause of work and the distance but I'll try to make it.

Leave it out Adrian. The life of a Ford fan was/is hard enough. Cut some slack!
Moffat still is THE Aussie Ford hero. Forget Johnson, he was a pretender. |

RaceTime - great shot isn't it! Another member once posted the photo and I had as wallpaper on the computer for six months.

69 Moffat was beaten by a better driver in a better car. So good was this driver that Moffat had to get him in the same team so he could give him a dud car and have a beater chance of winning. 72 Again a better driver in a better car. 88 Maybe if he had let the late great Gregg Hansford drive more they may have one. But when the engine cracks in half you usally have trouble winning. |

I took the shot sometime between 1972 and 75 on the exit from Oran Parks BP Corner as they come onto the straight. I was a scrutineer in those days and used to take pics at meetings from inside the fence above the concrete wall (except when Lance J Ruting was around - he didn't like competition from anyone ) |

Well that is interesting. Did the photo ever get published, because the now banned user Ray Bell put the photo in a thread. I did have it on the wallpaper. His reproduction was scanned from a magazine I thought.
Colin give it up will ya. |

Now now - stop knocking Lance...
And no - certainly wasn't a scanned pic - I still have the negative - that scan comes from an 10x8 print I had Allan Moffat sign for me. BTW - I was wondering about Ray Bell - what was he banned for and when? |

The best thing to with Lance J was to go up to the caravan when some young girls were looking at pictures and ask Lance "do you have any Ruting photos?"
and the reply would come back "I have lots of Ruting photos!" The girls would go red and walk away! For those that don't know, Ruting is pronounced Rooting! Poor Lance died of cancer a couple of years ago and I miss him because he always was good for a laugh. |

Ahhh never saw that one - mine has the VW in the background so can't honestly say when I took it.
Maybe Lance saw mine and copied it (only cos Moffat wanted a copy mind you ) |

I had the rare privillage of getting a 10x8 photo off Lance for free. Now any of you who knew him are probably picking yourselves up off the floor right now. It was my 21st birthday and i had ordered a photo a few races before and i showed up at oran park on my birthday to race and pic up the photo and Lance gave it to me as a present. And i dont care about any of the rumors the other competitors started, because i got a free photo of Lance
