Moto GP Riders not Racing Suzuka.
Kato's teamate Gibeneau and World Champion Rossi vow not to race the Suzuka circuit again due to the fatal accident. Kenny Roberts Jr. also agree with Rossi's concern that the track is not safe and during the time Kato was down, track workers and paramedics took some time getting to him. If the Suzuka circuit is eliminated from the Moto GP date, which track will be suited for the high powered four strokes for next year?

I'm not surprised, Suzuka is way too dangerous for bikes, it has been for years. Spa would be a good replacement IMO; just as fast and challenging but I reckon that bit safer.....

Spa-Francorchamps was dropped many years ago, in part because of safety concerns. I think it more likely that another track in Japan will replace it, perhaps Sugo.

Didn't they modify the Suzuka chicane this year? Any particular reason why they did so?

Have they found the cause of the crash yet?

They changed the chicane and 130R for F1, don't know why though...

McNish's crash last year prompted them to make 130R easier, and they took out the bump. The changes to the chicane were supposed to be a compromise, to make it a better overtaking spot.
Suzuka's a risky circuit, but... Such is life. There are no guarantees. |

I would think if they replaced Suzuka they'd replace it with Sugo.

As far as i'm concerned the track is pretty much fine. Maybe the wall could be moved back where Melandri fell off. But the track has been like that for years and the riders haven't complained loudly, and Katoh's accident happened in an area that is hard to protect against, how many riders/drivers hit the wall while travelling in a straight line?

If anything, it's the new, heavier bikes.

First thing is that we need to find out why Daijiro came down at that part of the track. Its essentially a straight, and riders shouldn't be ditching at that point. The wall could be moved back, but crashes there are a rare occurance that shouldn't be taken as a serious threat.
Decisions as to whether we return to Suzuka in 2004 shouldn't be taken so soon. A lot of questions remain unanswered, and I believe that solutions can be found to someof these issues. Motorbike racing can never be 100% safe; I think Suzuka is 99% safe, adn an extra 0.5% can be fond easily enough. |

I doubt if Rossi and others will REALLY refuse to race at Suzuka. If HRC tell Rossi to race there, he will race there. Ditto for the other riders- the boss says frog, they hop.

The cause of Daijiro's accident MUST be found before anyone goes round assigning blame to track management or any other group.
