As I type this, no report has been given about Carpentier's condition.
His wreck looked pretty bad. My thoughts are with him... Good race on the Gold Coast. NO PIT WINDOWS WHATSOEVER!!! This set up a potentially fantastic finish. But made P2P a rather non-factor. Bruno picks up the win because: - PT puts his car into the runoff. - Bourdais fails to beat him out of the pits. Congrats to Bruno - I'm quite happy that the championship is going down to the wire. I'm not so sure that he deserved it, as the brain-fade he suffered on the earlier restart (allowing himself to fall five seconds behind the leaders) was rather odd. Congrats to Besnard, whose name the announcers didn't pronounce correctly, not a single time. Unless, of course, it is phonetically "Bernard"... That lack of pit windows was a refreshing change, I'd imagine that CC gets alot of positive feedback. Yet my enjoyment of this race is on "hold" until I hear a report about Patrick. |

Championship premutations
Quote:
Bourdais would then need to score 13 points to take the title. A 9th place finish would suffice. That assumes Bruno is fastest in both qualifying sessions. If SB took both pole points (and based on this season there is more chance of that than there is of Bruno taking those points) then 9 points on race day would be enough for him to take the title. 9pts = 12th place finish (or leading a lap and finishing 13th and so on...). For Junqueira to take the title it will need Bourdais to have some bad luck in Mexico on race day. |

I quite enjoyed that race. Bruno was the fastest guy this weekend and deserved the win.
I was thrilled with the Tracy/Bourdais battle early in the race. Early word on Carpentier is that he's ok - let's hope that's true. I'm stoked for Besnard. Let's hope some people can do some wheeling and dealing to get him a more frequent gig. |

I'm pretty sure they don't mookey, and that that's where the extra point came from.
Nice that the title goes down to the wire, although it'd be a shame if anyone other than Seb wins it. Also good to see Besnard (which is pronoucned Bernard, not sure why) and Wilson doing well. |

By the way, is Jarek Janis the same guy as Jaroslav Janis?
If so, how come he is Jarek now? |

Great race, (apart from the scary end), the highlight being Seb and Tracy braving it out, side by side, and Tracy being the bravest as he managed to stay ahead, which wasn't looking that likely halfway down the preceeding straight!
Has there ever been a bad race at Surfers? (2002 doesn't count, I said RACE! ) |

Some thoughts:
* Most important: Sounds like Pat will be okay. * Through much of the race, PT was really slowing everyone down and putting in laps .5-1s off the potential pace. Was he saving fuel or simply could do no better? TK, Daily, Jenkins seemed to indicate that he was getting worse milage than others. * First corner Bourdais while "challanging" PT, he took a horrible line to the corner, there's no way he was going to pull that off without cutting the cones/tires, then Wilson touched him. Bourdais essentially went straight into the entry, that's why he caught up. He was banking on someone being able to cut. Dirty move. I have to agree with TK that I'm not so sure I like the whole chicane cutting thing. * Nelson - When did this guy learn to drive? He was quiet impressive, actually on a fast pace, made a pass for position on Lavin and had to again pass Lavin to lap him like it was for position. Take qualifying out of the mix and I think he probably had a better race performance than his team mate Wilson! * I think fuel issues semi-ruined the race. I don't like windows, etc., but I think we would have seen better racing. I think through most of the race PT and Junky were running slow and later on Bourdais and Junky to nearly the end because of fuel economy. It would have been kind of neat to see Besnard on the podium, but that's not a legit result. * Can't believe that PT threw away a victory with that mistake. * Dominguez was on fire. I really want to see this guy with a competitive setup at Mexico. I don't know that he had much for the NH guys when the put in their fastest laps, but it's clear he's able to run his car to the limit and certainly pull away from RHR. Patreek is in hospital, but is A-ok. And can I say, that was a best damn race I have seen in a long time, and the first real Champ Car race since 2001. That was awsome. I'm am now 100% fully on the fence again. Infact I am so on the fence i've got splinters in my pants. That was great. Great job by Bessie as well! (We call him Bessie, but he's Behnard...we australians are wierd...) Last edited by jjspierx; 28 Oct 2004 at 17:10. |

Anyone else here in the states have a problem hearing the commentary by Rick Benjamin and Tommy Kendall? They seem to be drowned out by the engine noises. BTW, I'm watching the race now, had to tape it 'cause I had to work when the race was on, don't know if it gets better later on.

I can hear the engines fine, but the commentators seemed to have their mics turned off. If I turned up the volume to hear the commentators, the cars would be so loud, you'd think there was one in my living room.

Well Done David
I know it's not a V8 specific thread, but he is one of 'ours' - congrats to Besnard for scoring Championship points. With the talk recently of WPS having more drivers than cars would it be possible this may lead to a full time gig O/S for DB?
