I just found out today that The Race Of 1,000 Years will not be televised live in Australia. We will get a 2 hour highlights package sometime in January.
I really enjoy this category as the cars through all 3 classes just look amazing and the closing speeds between the classes is just frightening. But how is this category supposed to get any sort of fan base in Australia when all we get to see of these endurance events in a pathetic little 30 minute highlights package for races ranging from 3 hours to 24 hours. Anyway...this had me quite miffed...how do other Aussie fans feel about it - not all of us have the money to make it to the track. |

I totally agree with you buckshot..I was actually gonna start looking arounf for TV coverage today ..but now it seems i dont have to.
it is a shame that we the fans carnt get decent coverage of this quality event..as you say all year we have subjected to crappy little 30 min shows of each race and that isnt enough ti win over a new fan base. i was really hoping channel 10 would at least show us the majority of the race live or a delayed coverage the next day as its new years eve..but what will they show..a heap of people getting drunk and some little fireworks display on sydney harbour. oh well hopefully it is a huge success nd they will be forced to do something for next year. |

Bathurst 1000, Queensland 500, Adelaide (Clipsal) 500, Canberra (GMC) 400. 4 enough? OK, they're all V8 Supercars but they are all shown live. Then there's the Honda Indy 300.
Really, they should be showing the race live and there isn't really any reason why they shouldn't, except it is New Year's Eve and a Sunday and therefore they want everyone watching, not just motorsport fans. 2 hours is still better than the 30 minutes (22 without ads, 12 without the pre-race/Adelaide update/etc) of coverage we currently get. |

Actually I even think the Clipsal 500 telecast in Sydney was about 40 minutes behind.

About a month ago TEN said they were televising the race live on raceday. They will also show some of the stuff on the two preceeding days. This may have changed but I have seen nothing stating this as yet. If anywhere in Oz was going to miss out, it would be Adelaide becuse we never receive footy or cricket live if its being played in Adelaide. Other states will get it fine, because they wouldn't want to miss the ratings/money involved. And besides, I can't see that Don Panoz would have accepted a deal in which his mega-buck event was going to be completely ignored re TV coverage. Nobody would want to get him offside or he may not bring the race back next year. It makes no sense commercially for TEN to not televise the race.
What else are they gonna do, have everyone watch "I Love Lucy" or "The Simpsons"? |

With the cricket, unless it is sold out, they only show up to about tea time live and then nothing.
