Who is racing as part of the Formula Saloons races at Brands Hatch on the weekend of Aug 8th / 9th.
Both the Arrowpak Nissans are to take part but not sure if there are many more ? Be good to see a nice number of cars out. Whats the latest Garry ? |

Extremely likely that I won't be there.
B* work! Harry sits sadly in the corner of the shed, engine still in pieces (though not as many as last week which makes a change!) By next weekend, the motor should be in once piece, but probably nowhere near in the car! Rob. Grumpy of Bedfordshire with withdrawl symptoms. |

Do not have a list of actual entries but there should be at least 12 at this moment.

For watchers and interested parties, there is a 1998 T8 built Vectra Super Touring shell for grabs on eBay, with a starting bid of ... get this.... £0.99

Sorry to hear Harry is not yet ready.
Would like to have seen the FS cars after seeing the STs at Snett but we're at Lydden |

Still at 99p!!
As for Harry, I'm aiming to get the engine back into one piece before the weekend, and then into the car on Monday. But because of lead times for other parts which can't be ordered until the engine/gearbox has been mounted in the car, I'm, to put it bluntly, stuffed! Rob. |

Unfortunately, despite a lot of phoning around, the races have been cancelled. Only seven entries were received including mine and Garry's plus the Arrowpack duo.

So what DO we have that weekend instead Rod, any ideas? It's a two day meeting I seem to recall...

Is formula saloons effectively a dead series now then? How many rounds have actually taken place this year? It would be a shame to lose it as the cars are great pieces of kit, what are the plans for next year? Does it have a future?

Unfortunately yes. Only one round has been run, back at Easter (Silverstone)which clashed with Euro saloons at Mallory the same day. No championship next year, apparently one of seven which have been culled. The Future? who knows. Two open saloon races were run at Brands last Saturday, with an entry fee of just £165 you would have thought it would have been full. In the end 21 practiced, and then two "defected" to the Brit sports race! Needless to say the club lost money...again.
I know Garry is hoping to run three Super Touring challenge events next year, but he is very despondant about the way things have turned out this year. If we want open saloon events someone will have to either guarantee numbers or stump up some money or pay the increased entry fee that a club will demand. The days of modified/hybrid saloons are sadly at the best limited, at the worst over. Next week at Brands the programme consists of Supersports (double header), Formula Renault (double header), Kumho BMW (double header), Legends (double header), Clubmans, Westfields, TVR CC challenge, and yes it is a two day meeting. There is also a two day meeting at Lydden and at Silverstone, plus Mallory and Snetterton on Sunday. |

While sad day it is, and Garry has done a great job, there is still Euro Italia series and BARC Sports and Saloons. Any takers for next year?

Yes, I agree. Euro Italia could be a home until someone is bold enough to bring back Thundersaloons properly, with backing.

Thanks Rob. With all due; theres a lot of doom and gloom here, and I appreciate why. But, at the end of the day there are still series to race in. AND yes, where is the person to revitalise Thunder Saloons?

John Webb with JP backing him?
Fancy being involved with an end of season jolly with a team of ex-Thundersaloons in the Birkett 6Hr relay at Silverstone??? |

Yes please! Pete Thurston is there! I said. Will have the Escort up and running by then. (Have not sent Andy Chester £10,000 bill as yet for trying 3 abreast at Paddock, Brands yet). Might have a couple more V8 Escorts floating by then too, all on rebuilds..

I believe John Webb is already under contract to JP as advisor.
