Aero in IRL
Big IRL wings with steep rake angles produce gobs of downforce that allows or 100% throttle for entire race distances at most events. The art & science of aerodynamics is paramount in the IRL. With a sculpted carbon-fibre body bristling with wings and aero devices, an indy car is essentially an airplane inverted at 230 mph.

And your point is????
The IRL aeordynamics are dictated by the rules - the wings are spec, the tunnels are spec, the gurneys that are allowed are spec and limited, the wing angles allowed are dictated, and so on. There is very little that a team can do to change the basic aero package that they are handed, so to say that there is much science, or art, left for them to have to learn and develop, is erroneous at best. There is more aero development leeway in Formula Ford nowadays! Sorry! Last edited by enzo; 19 Apr 2002 at 05:49. |
