If Diz can run a race meeting in wales, almost as far away as possible, is it possible for a group of like minded single seaters to do the same in England somewhere ?
How much would it be to hire Stow for the day and do some timed runs or fastest 5 laps or something, at this time of year ? these places are all hard up for cash, and you would think that they could do something for people to be able to go round a track (with a licence of course). But no! Its got to be hundreds of pounds (except good old Mallory) just to be able to drive the thing for a day. It does not have to be a race, just good old drive round and enjoy the thing! Ah well, thats my rant for the month over with. And before anyone says, he's got no idea how much these days cost, i haven't. But, you can just see all that track at say Rockingham doing stuff-all most of the time and no doubt going out of buisness in a few years with no money. And over in nurburgring nordschleife 13 miles for about 15 Euro's. trouble is its not in my back garden. Can you just dream of living near the place. "I'm just popping out dear for a quick drive round the local track" I'll be back in about ten mins !!!!!!!!!!! Fat chance of that happening in this country. Come on Jonathan Palmer, help us and yourself out and give us something thats reasonable at your tracks at this time of year !! The thing is if he did, the word would soon get out and you would fill the place up.............I think? |

Try the Semsec Lydden and Stowe events, from memory, I think they were 100 GBP including 1x qualifying and 2x 15/20 min races. Quite good value, friendly atmosphere, but not very fierce racing.

You see what I'm saying is, that Diz seems to be the only one who makes the effort to run something thats not arranged by some club. Good job he does !!
Sorry Diz about the "other side of the world" but it must be 600 mile round trip from Cambridge. In saying that, I'm considering it as a weekend trip with the day before on the track and race's being " bargain of the year" And no I don't work for Diz. What do you have to do to arrange something like that Diz ? |

It is still run by a club - it has to be - in this case the Anglesey Circuit Club.

right, thanks Ian. Some of these things people will not know (like myself)
I think its helpful for these things to be understood so we can perhaps understand why these things at some tracks cost the earth. what the hell is the bmw performance driving centre at rockingham then ? Is this just BMW hiring the track day after day or what. I Don't suppose I could turn up with me F3 and run round on any day, could I ? |

Somehow, I doubt they will want an F3 car showing up all their 50 grand M3's by putting in laptimes 20 secs faster....
If you want to just run the car and not race, Llandow near Cardiff lets you run the whole day, open pit lane, usually hardly anyone there, for around 120 pounds or so. Just watch the bumps, run-off in some places is expensively close. |

oh yes, I forgot, a race license is kind of optional too, just show them a drivers license and off you go. Great if you want to allow your (trusted) mates to sample a race car cheaply.

Andy,
Surprised you are still recommending LLandow!! That said I will be testing later this year - I will try to avoid the curse of the TOMs! By the way I am in Sydney 1-3 Nov - fancy a beer? |

Just out of interest, the BARC south east centre run a single seater series (catering for virtually anything, bit like Formule Libre). Usually there are two races per day, 10 and 20 minutes long, for about £130. At Stowe it is £110, and this weekend there is also a sprint which drivers can do.
The question is: support has been patchy, at Brands there were only 15 entries. Are there sufficient interested drivers to make this worthwhile. If so please let Andy Ratcliffe (01622 858089) know. They need to gauge competitor interest before booking dates for next year. |

You won't need a fast shutter speed for pics of my Ralt (black, siler/red stripe) as the car is quick, but the owner is not !!

Toyota MR2 engine 190 bhp. Never been there with the car yet. Normaly about 52-54 sec at Mallory (yes I know its not quick but I'm trying)
Hoping to break the 1 min barrier (only joking Andy) Still not got over the fear of going out on the track yet, but great fun. Me and the lad are stil both learning to drive the thing, and fear is sometimes a good thing. once I'm out there I'm fine. Just hope I can get the day off!! |

Have a good day, its pretty hard to damage a car at Snet, you've got to be really trying to hit anything!

I have done a few of the BARC-SEC single seater races at Stowe and always really enjoyed them. They are excellent value for money. Unfortunately I have had a few date clashes this year with other things but I am hoping to do the Nov one and a few next year. I only do the BARC-SEC Stowe races (along with other races at Mallory, Silverstone and Donington) as its relatively local for me. So Stowe, yes. Lydden & Brands, I am afraid not! |

Damb and blast it!!!!!
Snetterton have called off the testing this thursday due to lack of interest ?? (4 cars) Living in Cambridge, I was going. Got conformation of me day off and rung first thing this morning (Tuesday) to book but no luck. Now this brings into question two things in my mind. Firstly the weather, apparently going to be ok on thursday in east anglia. Secondly the cost. about £180 for me and the boy for an afternoon. I think it was three sessions of half an hour or so. Anyone out there ever found Mallory closed on a wednesday ????? (not me) Is this due to the location of Snetterton, or the cost of the track. the lady on the desk said, she can only remember a couple of other tests being cancelled. I have considered hiring the track for the day but £6500 is a bit past my limit!!! Three marshals and a medic are minimum for a test day. I did suggest that if the field was looking small they could do a late summer special offer to attract the punters in future. She said they do this in November, but there are none planned for this year. So if you are looking to go to Snetterton, the final test dates are; Friday 7th oct, friday 14th oct, and sat 22nd oct and thats it! |

I'm sure they quoted £130 and £50 for the extra driver !!
Or was it £140 and £40 for the extra driver ? Last edited by gadgit; 2 Oct 2005 at 16:25. Reason: missed some thing. |
