The first two, although good games, were massive flops sales wise. Wouldn't be worth thier while to do another one, sadly.

That's a real shame. I was looking forward to the road/street course additions. Oh well, just have to wait to the unified series introduces their first game...

Any new game this year would probably be based on the 2004 season. As it was Indycar Series 2005 was based on the 2003 championship.

Was ICS 2005 any better than the original. I quite liked the original but haven't palyed the sequel....

I have the Indycars 2005 game but I havn't played it yet because I need a chip. From the screenshots I have seen the graphics look pritty bad. Is it as bad as it looks?

If Indycars 2005 was based on the 2003 season what season what the first Indycars game bassed on?

It's a shame they discontinued this series because it was a top class game. I just loved tuning the car up gradually, playing with tyre pressures etc..., feeling the improvements, and watching the lap speed increase ever further. A magic game.

I never played the sequel either though. Any different to the first game?

No Indycars I know but a very nice Champcar mod was released for F1C recently (2000 to 2004 seasons). More info here:

I have the first one and is a good game, although a shame the drivers crash out every 10 laps.
And one thing that really got me hacked off was at Gateway when I pulled out of the pits, three cars passed me under yellow then I had to get back in front of them but it was green flag after we got out of the exit, they all speeded up at full speed for the re-start and therefore I couldn't get back by them, as it was impossible and I recived a black flag for it, which I really can't understand.
But other than that it's a good game.

I played the 2005 game, and it was bassed on the 2003 season, hmmm a bit odd.
I also noticed the graphics were worse than the original and was basicually the same even the music was.

Oh and (2002 version) I decided to do a full distance race season, and ended up losing the championship by one point, yet I won half the races, but failed to finish the lats three as I had a black flag at Gateway, ran out of fuel at Chicagoland, and got taken out on the front strech at Texas whilst lapping a back maker - he spun on the front strech and left me with no where to go.

Sorry to dredge up a topic that's a month old, but I thought I'd add to this with a fuller explanation.

Part of the team from Brain In a Jar, the team behind the first game, were brought in-house by Codemasters for ICS 2005. The team consisted of mainly programmers - about six of them, and they worked on cleaning up the original game and fixing bugs.

As the game came closer to launch, Codemasters named it IndyCar Series 2005 in a blatant attempt to give it a longer shelf life, despite the fact it was based on the 2003 season, and by doing so they telegraphed what was going to happen next. When the game hit the shops, Codemasters fired the team completely. One of the programmers actually posted on the Codemasters forums to confirm this had happened.

2005 is actually a much better game than the original - I still play it to this day, although it's a labour of love for the series more than anything else. Still, the racing leaves the likes of Gran Tourismo standing, and at least the AI puts up a good fight, even if it is a little easy to out-do them strategy wise on certain tracks.

I have a review of IndyCar Series 2005 on my website, if you're interested, and since you could probably pick this up now at a reduced price I'd heartily recommend it

Hopefull the current spike in popularity of the IndyCar Series, coupled with Danica-mania, will mean that some other developer will pick up the franchise and do it justice. I'm hoping EA take the plunge, as their Nascar engine would do nicely

Just like to add my praise of the original game. A very good racing game that I still play after two and a half years.

If you're into American single seater racing then there is a Champ Car game being developed at the moment, so I heard. Not sure if there is a thread about it somewhere on this forum?
