winning both Bathurst and the champonship
Winning bathurst put both lowndes and whincup in first in 2nd in the championship standing and a good shot of winning it as well, this question pop up intyo my head, who was the last ford driver to win bathurst and the championship in the same year?.I'm thinking of bowe as the last ford man to do.

Dick in 1989, I reckon.
Bowe won Bathurst in 1994 and the ATCC in 1995 |

They did say on the telecast that it was in 1988, but I thought it was 1989. |

1988 was Longhurst/Mezera, Johnson/Bowe/Smith & Bond/Jones, all in Sierra's. The Bond/Jones Caltex was originally disqualified from the event, promoting the Janson/Crowe BMW M3 to third place, but the #4 Sierra was later reinstated.
1989 was Johnson/Bowe, Neidzweidz/Biela in Sierra's, Richards/Skaife in a Nissan were third, from Fury/Oloffson fourth in the other Nissan. DJ did the Championship/Bathurst double in 1981 as well as 1989, with Moffat doing it in 1977 & 1973 also. |
