Michaels mechanical reliability
Just looking on www.f1db.com , a very good site that has every statistic you could want (although it does list Michael as 2003 champion already  )
Just looking through Michaels stats and it is now 36 races since he last had a mechanical failure!! (fuel pressure problem at Hockenheim 2001) Surely this must be some kind of record! The way the Ferrari reliability is going, should he stay in F1 for another 3 seasons (2004 - 2006), he can expect only 2 more mechanical failures if recent seasons are anything to go by! |

That really is amazing. Reliability this year has been amzing in general considering the new parc ferme rules. Kind of suggests that they were doing more harm than good taking them apart before.

even though i am really not a MS fan, nor a ferrari fan (sorry people), i do have to say that that is a huge acheivement!! also it is actually quite scary. although it does make u wonder, y doesnt rubens have the same reliabilty? it also gives other teams something to aim for, tho it could be, to some xtent, luck, but i xpect mainly a really organised and hard working team!

Ferrari reliability when comes to TGF is amazing.
But not quite the same with RB. |

Haha...it doesn't take long for the conspiracy theorists to spring into action does it?
There are quite a few races whereby Michael's car run into mechanical problems, but thankfully not bad enough to retire. Canada 03 springs to mind doesn't it? He had brake difficulties which forced him to really back down his pace. And he's kind of lucky that his mechanical failures are often during testings. Honestly, look at the way Ruben's suspension collapse at Hungary, i doubt Ferrari would risk "planning" such a failure at a time when they are hanging on to their WCC challenge. And yes, though its just a puncture at Hockenheim, Michael does have his share of tough luck in races. |

Mr V, while I hope it's time for TGF to have two consecutive mechanical failures, I just wanted to say thanks for providing that site - it's awsome, especially now that all the good ones require payments.

I don't think its a conspiracy, all great drivers tend to be easier on equipment. Maybe TGF is just a little easier on the suspension and jolting it over the curbs. And if you look, Rubens hasn't been bad either, only 1 failure this year IIRC

Michael's reliability record is staggering and I think it's probably the thing that kept him up there challenging all through his career and add that to his skill and intelligence and you have a prolific race winner and champion.

He's bloody lucky. Yes he had problems at Canada, but while Jacques had to retire with brake problems, Schumacher's problems were fair enough to keep on leading the race.

Well he's the #1, so I guess he has the better equipment. Not a conspiracy theory here, GT_R, but just a thought.

At first, maybe. BNut within a few races, teams will ahve mroe reliable engiens whcih can last a weekend - probably at little cost to performance.
Also, we all said that about the changes for this season, especailly as they were imposed late in the day (meaning that teams didn't have much chance to drop innavtive-but-potentially-unreliable hardware), and things haven't really changed. |

Maybe another factor is that possibly TGF drives more smoothly than RB. Look at the difference between Villeneuve and Button.
But for sure, Michael gets the better car. |

I think that we should qualify those stats with the number of failures over races run.
