Haven't Been to Mid-Ohio in 20 Years....Advice??
Like I said...haven't been there in 20 years...
But I'm definitely planning to go to watch the ALMS run there June 25-27 this summer!!!! How much has the place changed?? Your personal preferences or advice concerning the best viewing mounds??? Yur preferred corners or track segments to take pictures of the action? Preferences for parking locations (motorhome spots in the facility)? Locations to avoid for Parking (Motorhome spots in the facility) Where are best parking locations that are near cross-over bridges, the paddock, etc... Any advice or opinions you can give would be great.... |

I prefer the viewing mounds in the esses (driver's right) for spectating purposes. The best/craziest passes tend to take place there. During support races, if you can get in the grandstands, you get a good view of the track from exit of turn 1 through the keyhole and into the esses. It gets busy over there for the main event and you want to be as high as possible. Spend some time over on the mound at thunder valley as the speed difference makes for some dicing as well. This is the best place for shade, too, if you need it for a while. Motorhome spots are scattered around the facility. For ease of entrance and egress, try to get along the straight between turn 1 and the keyhole. You'll have the best access to the paddock and whole track from there. This area probably fills up the fastest, though, so either get there early (which it sounds like you're doing) or call ahead. I have no idea if they'll reserve the spots, as I tent it in the worker area. If you can't get here, try over on the outside of the Carousel (near station 14). There's a walkover bridge just up track from there and you're still close to the paddock. As far as preferred track spots for photos, if you have a pass, probably near station 5 (no-mans land between turn 1 and the back stretch, near the pro-start) is a good spot with minimal fencing. Station 11 (Madness) can also offer some up close views, if you have a pass. Driver's right between station 8 and 9 offers some good views as the cars come over the crest at 8 (the first left hander of the esses). If you don't get a photo pass, the only spot not through fencing is between station 7 and 8, drivers right. You'll have to search around for other chances to get photos without the fencing in the way. Let me know if you have any other questions. I hope to be there, but I may be in UK all of June and most of July. I hope to with you there, though. |
