GBRM should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Ford Anglia Racing Car

Some of you may know I've been documenting my late father's races and results (bloody hard work!) and am actually doing quite well, get ready to be impressed!! (No, I'm not going to blush Terry B or John T AND I'm not including damage!!)

Anyway, out of all of my Dad's races he is very proud of certain victories at certain times and one of, if not the biggest, was beating Roger Williamson in his Anglia. Dad commentated saying he was one of the few to beat Roger and his Anglia, especially legally!!

My question/query, twisted thread start ( ) is where is Roger's Anglia now? I know some people will say Tom Wheatcroft must have it but that was before Tom got involved and I am 99.9% sure he hasn't got it.

My money is on Streeter having it ( ); I've not seen colour pictures of the car but very similar to Gordon's colour scheme; anything you want to tell us Gordon??

In all seriousness; was it blue and white in the way Gordon's in purple/maevue (which is it Gordon?) and white?

P.S. I've posted this in another Galaxy far, far, far way and those Jedi amongst you will know where that is.

Unfortunately most of the racing Anglia's from the period when they were "the car" were scrapped and most of the mechanical/suspension parts were built into new Escort shells. I actually brought a complete original circuit racing car and used it on the ovals ! I even had a virtually brand new shell that I used for a Hot rod that got wrecked in its first race. The metal moth put paid to most Angleboxes, and I would think that you could count on one hand original period racers still being used. I helped George Polley to build the car I use at the moment in 1988/9 (by the way its Triumph magenta) and I still have my white one that I won a championship with in 1991. As for the one your old man had is anybodies guess, maybe Andrew Kitson can come up with a photo ?

There are photos of the Williamson Anglia on the wall at the Donington Collection. Unfortunately I think they are all black and white!

Gerry Taylor is also an Anglia man. He ran the Swish car in Special Saloons at the time.

It would also be interesting to know if Terry Crokers "Romford Motors" car is still in existance. There was also my then Barber from Hornchurch,he raced one 67/68,but had a nasty shunt at Clearways, not sure if the car was ever rebuilt though,Mick ------- ,can't remember his surname.I alway's remember the Romford Motors car as being totally imaculate in RR Regal Red .

No problem Gordon, I confuse myself sometimes!! The last Anglia I remember Dad racing was a blue one at Snetterton, must have been 1988ish, as it was when Russell was still quick and he punted Sir John Whitmore (in a Lotus Cortina) up the bum in practice but did manage to win the race. I can't remember the guy who owned it's name but I seem to remember he had two false legs and was a very good mechanic.

Thanks for the link Alan. Am I right in thinking the car was mostly a red colour with a yellow centre stripe then?

THE Famous Anglia.

Hi Everyone, sorry I havn't been posting lately but work raised it's ugly head and then wouldn't go away. Still, I'm here now.
Gregor Hi! Al Weyman asked me to pop back in. Yes I bought Rogers Anglia from him, well, bought is too strong a word. Back in those days we sort of bartered didn't we. Roger liked my Volvo P1800 s, and so I did a bit of cash with it and we were both happy. Roger was a real mate, and I miss him dearly. Anyway, as the lads have said, I have lots of pictures, and so on. The car in Rogers colours was the Red and Yellow of Dodge Williamsons garage, NORTHEND MOTORS AND COACHES of Leicester. I raced the car in those colours for a season, then when SWISH decided to sponsor me they had it in the equally famous Yellow and White with the big black centre stripe front to back. Upon my retirement ten years later I sold the car to a guy from Shropshire, I remember he was Robert someone, I believe he stripped it down. I had offered it to Tom Wheatcroft in 1975 but he declined the offer. I would have loved to see her in the Museum, but he obviously wasn't interested....pity. I hope this helps you Gregor. Should you wish to pm me please do so.
Kind regards, Gerry Taylor. ps Yes Al, I'm fine, busy with a TV thing at present, so am not at the pc very often.

Get hold of the DVD "1960s British Mini Racing" from Roscoe Films. The name is a bit of a misnomer a there is every type of touring car shown. The DVD is ridiculously short and not well edited (hard to understand what year each clip is from etc) but there is an abundance of Anglia's in every hue there!

Roger Williamson's Anglia

Just found this site tonight - It was me who bought the car from Gerry Taylor and unfortunately eventually it was stripped down. As Gordon Streeter said Anglias were worthless in the late 70's and many where rebuilt into Escorts. Gerry won a lot of races and had done a lot of mods to the car when he raced it (especially to the roof at Mallory hairpin!). By the time I bought it, it really needed reshelling. I kept it for a couple of years, again offered it to Tom Wheatcroft who wasn't interested and finally split it to use most of the running gear on my hot rod. Owned a number of other well known Anglias, a broadspeed, Richard Longs spaceframe car, Dennis Welch's pushrod and does anyone remember the Sanglia - fuel injected 4.7 litre Ford V8 which was eventually sorted to be one of the quickest hillclimb saloons in the late seventies. Regards, Ez Walker

I remember years ago an old mate of mine the same guy in the motortrade who offered me an original and genuine red and gold Alan Mann Escort for Hotrod racing (I turned it down as was a Twink and I also think he wanted about £5 or £600 pound for it :-)) had this black Anglia full race car and one of the lads bought it and used it on the road for a short while, I wonder who's car it was as I am sure it was well known at the time and a very serious bit of kit as I recollect.

Had a black one with gold stripes and Bishop Motors Limited on front wings. Ultra light with fibreglass roof etc and IRS - this was originally the John Macdonald Anglia BRM one litre special saloon. You guys have got me digging through my old photos now.
