Suzuka MotoGP - Qualifying Results
From MotoGP.com
Valentino Rossi claimed the first pole position of the new MotoGP World Championship season after a session, which following an initial threat of rain, developed into a classic battle for first place in the final twenty minutes amongst a clutch of riders . Loris Capirossi had maintained his grip on pole position until Carlos Checa finally displaced him with twenty-two minutes remaining. Yamaha team-mate Max Biaggi then took top spot with a quarter of an hour left, but his joy was short-lived as Rossi launched an inevitable attack on first place. With just ninety seconds of the session remaining Capirossi had managed a final push to recapture pole, but Rossi had saved his best for last, and on his final lap he stormed to the top of time charts, overcoming his compatriot by just over a tenth of a second. Behind the two Italians Checa, Itoh, Biaggi, Katoh, Ryo and Jacque made up the top eight, with under a tenth of a second separating second and fifth. Pere Riba did not take part in the session due to the injury he sustained yesterday and Garry McCoy suffered a spectacular fall although without serious consequences |

Capirossi could do well in the race, IF he can stay with Rossi.

Rossi once said: If Loris is on a high one I cannot catch him.
I expect great stuff from Capirossi, he will do quite well and perhaps even steal a win or two??! |

He could well do, as he will want to forget about last year, when he didn't win a race.

I'm really looking forward to this one. There is great expectation everywhere about how the 500s will go against the prototype 990s.
And the best things: I get it *live* on FOX Sports!!! |

Ah that was fun to watch.
I was first miffed over the damm rain, then I thought that it would be fun to see the diesels in the rain, well needless to say that it was great Gibernau rode fantastic until he fell off, what a way to handle that bike, I hope that it is the way they will push these buggers around in the future That Yamaha and the Aprilia has a great sound. |
