Be there, camera in hand, no press pass though
So marshalls beware, long lense and no chance of any shots of the cars...... be ready for the postings the week after....... but i am open to bribes |

I hope so.
I was stood near Cascades looking across to Nickerbrook. It all got very hairy very quickly... We could see the rain coming, but that didn't help much - it was absolutely torrential. Leading Saleen came over Hill Top and missed the Nickerbrook chicane, negotiated the cones and very very gently went on his way - same for the Speed Twelve in second. Then it all went wrong. The 3rd placed Saleen slid thru Nickerbrook sideways and came to a halt on the straight track section (i.e. the bit used - frequently today - as a run off if you miss the chicane). The 4th placed Saleen also span and joined him. As drivers were getting out of the way with the help of the marshalls, I saw the blue Viper appear from Hill Top. Doing 100+. Backwards. On the grass. I nudged my friends and said "that ain't slowing down". He was a passenger from at least 300-400 yards out - it did three or four complete spins on the way down the hill and plowed into the Saleens backwards. I was sure any driver/marshall stood in the way of that would have been seriously hurt or worse. The St John's ambulances ferried at least four people from the scene - but possibly just taking those shaken/shocked to the med centre for checkups. Biggest incident I've seen live - a little too exciting for my liking... Last edited by garcon; 18 Aug 2002 at 22:43. |

Simon was in the Tuscan R?
We got talking to some of his crew looking on from Cascades - I'm pretty sure he arrived after the worst of it and somehow managed to spin round the wreckage and come to a halt at the back! He was out of the car and moving around fine. |

I was stood right next to Garcon when this all kicked off, there where so many cars off in all directions it was hard to watch what happened. Off at cascades, island bend and cars sliding one after another down from hill top at speeds you couldn't believe. It's still hard to believe that everybody went home safe and sound after an incident like that. The Mole Valley team we stood talking to where highly concerned about the driver, as you would expect, coupled with the news that there was a marshal in the middle of it somewhere was the point at which I suggest we retired to chequers as I had seen more than enough. But the one really funny thing was the lovley noise the blue viper made as they tried to tow it up clay hill.....not healthy....
