British/Belgium Rallycross - Lydden 16/17 March

Hi,

I didn't see a thread just for this, so thought I'd start one.

Very much looking forward to this. The event has been better than the ERC over past years. Fingers crossed for a great entry list and some ERC guys coming over for more testing.

I have a question as to the timetable. I note on www.rallycross.com that the racing starts on Saturday at 9am and will just be practice and Heat 1. Given that racing can't start until half 12 on Sunday, I'd have thought that it makes more sense to do Heats 1 and 2 on Saturday - can anyone confirm this? If entries are like they have been for this in the past (110+), then warm-up, two heats and finals in 5 hours is really pushing it!

Thanks,
Adam

im looking forward to it too

logically i would say theres got to more races on the saturday than the sunday, will wait until seeing a proper timetable before i decide for sure which day to go on, kinda backwards to have a half day of rallycross when one of the main selling points of it is 'see lots of races in one day'

Im pretty certain that the running order will be as discussed.

I.E
Saturday practice and 1st heats
Sunday 2nd heats, 3rd heats and finals

This is how it normally runs for Belguim/BRC combined event.

I'm pretty sure that previous Brito-Belge Lydden rounds have been over a bank holiday weekend (once at Easter and twice in August) and therefore the second day is the longer of the two.

I think they started at 12 last year on the Sunday and it was only the hot hatch guys who got hit buy the 6PM curfew.

At least that is my hope because I certainly do not fancy driving all the way down on Sunday to see one heat and a final.

They have so much time over the two days that it would be criminal to allow any guys to miss out on racing. The hot hatch guys pay the same entry as the supercars, and deserve a final just as much. Maybe they could split second heats over the two days to facilitate.

I guess it depends on the number of entries, but in the past we've seen 110+ and i just dont see them getting that many races in in such a short period of time (especially if there are any accidents).

There was not a Belgium/Brit Round last year.

The last one was 2011, over a sat/sun in March when they had the live TV coverage on the Sunday.

I thought it was 3rd heats and finals on the Sunday on that occasion.

The first one was on the August Bank Holiday was run as two separate meetings with the Belgium Round on the Sunday, and The British on the Monday.

I've been keeping my eye out for a list the last few days, hopefully one will turn up soon. The usual suspects are www.britishrallycross.com (not sure if still being updated), http://www.rallycrossuk.com/lydden-hill--round-1 and then there's the Lydden Hill website and www.rallycross.com. Hopefully one will be up this week some.

Any interesting names on the list they gave you?!

Hi

Didn't really take much notice as dashing at the time but only 30 to 40 cars entered at the time last week.

And only one Lotus listed?

Guess we will have to wait are you racing??

Who is racing on here

I have entered in SN in my 205

This is correct the entry list I saw today had 84 cars on it, of which 13 are Supercars of which 7 are from the Belgian champs and no Pat Doran on the one i saw...... any news on this? And includes Mad Mark and Procter.

All other classes well supported including hot hatch with 14 cars. Very nearly as many Belgians coming as are British!

SuperNational has 2 Lotus's now and an S40.

You do have to wonder sometimes, I just called the circuit to try and find out what heats were running over which days due to the 12PM Sunday start.

The answer from the circuit "we have no idea" !!

Ten days out from the event and the only confirmed peice of information is that it starts with Free Practice at 9AM on Saturday . In bold the document then says The timetable may be amended at short notice. Surely you need a timetable in the first place to amend it ??

It is the Belgian way. In Belgium, free practise starts at 10:00, first heat at 11:30 and the last A-final start at 17:00. Then what actually happens is free practise start at 11, First heat at 13, and the finals end at dusk.
What will happen at Lydden Hill next week is probably that on Saturday they keep going until the curfew and do the rest on Sunday.

Thanks - that helps a bit. Could still do with knowing which heats are running on what day though, if it's only first heats on Saturday then that's looking like being a very short day? I'll probably only be there for one of the two days - hard to decide which without a definitive timetable.

Has an entrylist made it into the public domain anywhere yet?

Entrylist with Belgian drivers for a race in the UK, given by a Dutch guy.
This almost looks like a European Championship

I think Willie Woods is on holiday which may explain the delay in a British entry list.

Really looking forward to Lydden, should be a cracking meeting. My main aim to survive the event with all 4 wheels intact on my buggy! (Yes, that was me at the test day.....)
