2011 24H Series
Creventic added the 24 Hours of Barcelona to their 24H Series portfolio, to be held on Septermber 24-25. This has moved the 12 Hours of Hungary to May 21-22.
The 24 Hours of Barcelonawas Spain's most important authentic endurance race, but it skipped 2010 because of lack of entries. |

Hmm, not a fan of the Barcelona date, right in between the 24hour races at Zolder and Silverstone...

And I doubt many GT2s or GT2 drivers will pop in with Silverstone and PLM races during that period.
SRO already shoots itself with Blancpain, GT3, GT4, FFSA and ADAC GT Masters. Then we've got GT Open and this new intruder. They could put this race in late October. Barcelona is still pretty ok then. |

The VDS Ford Mustang driven by Julien Schroyen. Benjamin Bailly and Raphaël van der Straten himself won the 12 Hours of Hungary. Second was the Speedlover Porsche 911 raced by James Emmet and Jean Michel Gerome, and third was the Monlau Seat León Supercopa driven by Javier Hernández, Jaime Manuel Hernández and Pepus Alonso.

I suppose some teams and/or drivers with budgets interested in longer races are off to the Blancpain series?

I think I counted 2 spectators, and 11 cars taking the green flag for a 12 Hour race looks ,well, boring

I think this youtube video pretty much sums everything about the current state of the 12h Hungaroring and the series in general.

I'm not really suprised by the lack of entries because the Blancpain series was on at the same time.

I don't think the Blancpain Series really was the reason as the bulk of the field at Hungary was usually made up of touring cars and non-FIA-spec GTs.
I think their best entry was somewhere in the mid-30s one or two years ago. What really killed them was the late move to May to make room for the Barcelona race in fall. Not only was it on rather short notice, but the date is inherently a bad one with VLN-teams being in preparation mode for the 24 hours at the Ring and of course all other national series like BTCS and Britcar in full swing. In October teams are far more likely to skip a round of their domestic series for a 12 hour event, because many of them will be out of the championship race in their respective series by that time. |

MMM, makes the Bahturst 12hr in Australia look like a success. Well it would not have been boring for the teams as they need to work hard if there is 12 or 60 cars in the race. Better luck next year for the organisers.
I heard a rumour the Bathurst 12hr was changing to a 24hr event, then being added to the 24hr Endurance series. Can anyone shed light on this? |
