Panizzi now has problems as well.

Freddy Loix retired on the road section after SS10 after experiencing throttle problems. Unable to fix the problem he has withdrawn from the rally.

Makinen rolled on the penultimate stage, and is out of the rally. And Peugeot personnel were observed near Gronholm's car when he was having problems getting it started before the first stage this morning, thus possibly violating the "one kilometer rule". This means Richard Burns could win...

Petter Solberg was suffering from food poisoning earlier in the rally, and is currently 4th.

Burns was DQ'd as well. Too light flywheel.

Marcus was pretty upset whe he heard about his DQ:

Sainz to be disqualified at lunch?

Or have the organisers realised that they would have to disqualify too many befoe they get to the first Argentinian?

I'm tempted to say 'what is it about French teams and servicing regulations?', but it seems that they took a chance and got caught ( I can't beleive they didn;t know the rules ).

I must question the rule though. I think it's fine to have experts stood there for advice etc, so long as they don't touch the car.

As for Richard, it would be interesting to know what % of the flywheel weight it was out by. Could it be manufacturing tolerances or are there some custom built lightweight parts out there.

But in all that it's big congrats to Carlos & Luis. not the way they'd want tp pick up a win but vindication for all their hard work.

Also big congrats to Skoda

I think the flywheel was 20 grams underweight, but don't quote me on that!

The Peugeot is not happy about it. Peugeot's lost is Ford's gain with Sainz the official winner of the Argentine Rally with teammate Colin McRae finishing third. Gronholm and Burns must be feeling angry about the turn of events against them. Next stop the Safari Rally.

The "Subaru bull****" comment was said in the heat of the moment, Peugeot clearly broke the rules. That's proven by the fact that they are not even thinking of appealing over this decision.

It's too bad for Gronholm though, who had driven very well in a very tricky rally.

My understanding is that if the mechanics had said exactly what they said but by phone from over 1K away it would have been OK. The fact that they spoke to Gronholm is not the issue, it is that they spoke so close.

The rule is clear about the distance, so Peugeot didn't have much of a leg to stand on.

That must be a loophole in the rules then, seeing as the "one kilometer rule" is there to prevent any doubt whatsoever over whether or not there have been any assistance from mechanics in situations like these...

Ron Fellows lost the Class Championship in GTS at the Petit Le Mans by the same kind of difficulty -- although in his case I believe the mechanics were observed actually doing hands on work. Fellows maintains to this day that he did it all himself.

He was quite steamed when he was put out of the race and he nearly ran over me coming out of the firelane.

Next time I reckon Marcus will know to use the phone.

Undoubtly he will. Marcus seemed very, very uppset when he was interviewed in Finnish tv after he was given the stewards decision on paper.

When the interviewer asked Marcus what he'll do next and as an answer Bosse (Grönholms nickname) gave following demonstration: wiped his rear end with the decision and tossed it away in anger...

Can anybody tell me what's happening, I'd watch the race but my local channel didn't reported any news after that, I am confused.
