Greenback has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Most improved team and driver at Sepang

Had a bit of free time in the office today and decided to make a comparison on the lap times between 2007 and 2008.

Interesting facts

1) Kimi set the fastest lap time for the weekend during Q2, but it is still slower than Alonso's Q2 timing in 2007

2) BMW, Honda and ForceIndia are the most improved team within the top, middle and bottom grouping respectively.

3) Mclarens qualifying pace during Q2 in fact slower than 2007. (Alonso factor?)

4) Kimi is the stronger driver at Ferrari, while Hekki is slower than Alonso

5) Giancarlo/Force India is the most improved package.

EdLeake should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Being a Honda owner and driver myself I'm happy to see them steadily improving their package, fourth fastest lap for Button is promissing.

Thanks for taking the time to draw up those charts.

You might also want to know that the Honda engines are also the noisiest on grid.

Is that true?

While at the Australian GP 2 weeks ago I actually didn't notice one engine being louder than another. They all seemed very loud.

I think some commentator a few years ago indicated that each f1 car was 150 db or approximately as loud as a Boeing 747. Does anyone know if that is true or just an exageration.

Cheers

I was at sepang last weekend, from where I was seated; between turn 6 and 7 and about 15m from the cars, it was really obvious because when the honda and super aguri drive pass, my ears start to hurt.

I can believe it!

Our 4 cylinder 250hp 2.2 Honda is likely to be 125db@8,000rpm, we need to work on the sliencer to bring it down to MSA regs (closer to 105db).

I've owned many Honda motorcycles (CBX1000,CB750F1,CBR1000 to name but a few),and yes, they do "sing".
