BARC Star of Mallory FF1600 2008

I hear the news is out that we have a new Midlands-based FF1600 Championship from next year.

Speaking personally, I am sure it will be fantastic and has to be better than the Keystone Cops type organisational dross drivers have had to put up with in the last couple of years.

kartingdad has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Who's organising it then?

I reckon that which track(s) might be in the title too Jeremy. I'm sure more will follow on format from the powers that be.

So Rock, Donn, Silv + Mallory - rather than the usual 70% at Mallory...??

I've no information whatsoever, but given that BARC are the permit holding club and that BARC hold the lease for Mallory, I would expect a good number of the rounds to be there.

Dave, I'm certainly not the person behind this initiative but I've got a feeling it is a "Championship" for "FF1600" cars, will race at "Mallory" and possibly be organised by the "BARC."

Hi Everyone , I thought I would just post a reply to this thread to let everyone know the current state of play on this new championship.
The idea was briefly discussed between myself and JEB a couple of years ago but went no further than that , I had the thought again this year that it is such a crying shame that there is so little Formula Ford racing at Mallory these days and now was the right time to do something about it , coincidentally Peter Daly had been having similar thoughts for some time as well and I believe had been in contact with John Ward , Mallory Park Circuit Manager , along similar lines.
I myself got in contact with John Ward with my ideas for a championship , we all got together and had a bit of a discussion and John took up the baton , contacted BARC headquarters and they gave the go ahead to proceed with the championship and thats how it was born !
It's still early days and nothing concrete in terms of format has been decided but there were certain criteria that had to be met we felt , in order for such a championship to be successful , these were :

Decent prize package and start money if possible (dependant on number of entries)

Appoint series scrutineer and address driving standards

Class A & B only

Decent promotion and reporting of series

Product support from trade suppliers

Realistic entry fees

Early season test day/half day

Avoid date clashes with other FF series where possible.

These are just the few points that were discussed and at this stage I think everyone is still open to other ideas , we want to hear what other people have to say and I think its fair to say that we feel that competitors voices should be heard and that the championship should be geared in favour of the competitor rather than anyone else.
The amount of rounds hasn't been finalised but something around eight races was mentioned ( all at Mallory , obviously )
I think at this stage we also hope that JEB will be involved , his knowledge , expertise and contacts would be invaluable and I think it would bring even greater kudos to such a series , so here's hoping !
Well thats all for now folks , thats exactly where things are at as of today , when there is some more news to announce the relevant people will let you know.
Bye for now Nick.

This is great news. I really like Mallory and although i only live 20 mins from Combe i'd like to do it (if it happens).

The opportunity to get lapped at a different track - oh boy!!

So - when is this likely to start? 2008 or 2009?

Just wonder if 8 rounds of Mallory (or 4double headers)might be a little bland.

Now if a couple of 'away' rounds at Donington were added it would increase the interest I think.

From a marshals point of veiw I wish this venture all the best. I remember the old Star Of Mallory championship being hugely entertaining with close and (for the most part!) fair racing.
The rounds will be first on my list to volunteer for next year.

I won't be able to do a whole championship but I'd definitely be able to do a round or two. I thought the old Star Of The Midlands with Master Of Mallory sub-championship worked really well as a concept. If it gets up and running with just a Master Of Mallory style championship then I don't see it as being a huge problem though.

All the best with getting it off the ground!

£100 championship registration fee includes a free test day. The BRSCC should take note.

Hi everyone, The BARC and Mallory Park have been working hard to get the SOM champinship back, i was talking to circuit manager John Ward yesterday who is very keen to make this work. We were thinking of ways to make it more appealing not just for well funded drivers but guys with less backing and we thought a pounds per points system for regular drivers in each class would be good providing we can get the sponsership, any thoughts?
