I could figure it out on the ones that are still active drivers or I the ones I can find history on...but as far as Sam McQuagg or James Hylton, I think I'm SOL.
Smart Alec huh? don't think I saw any that listed IL as their hometown...*G* |

Of the 24 drivers I've found, the average age is 29.6 years. Ricky Rudd so far is the youngest at 21 & Dick Trickle so far is the oldest at 48. I found info on Donnie Allison, Ken & Ron Bouchard & Jody Ridley but I couldn't get exact dates. Ken was 16 in 1973 so that would put him about 30 to 32 when he won ROTY. I know Donnie was younger than Bobby. Bobby was born 12/3/37 so Donnie was under 29 when he won ROTY. The other drivers I haven't tried to do a search on yet. If anyone else can fill in the blanks (but not the guy who is just here to promote his web site), I think that would be neat to find out the exact average age of the ROTY's (you can tell its the off-season...lol). Thkx. |

WOW! LARS!
Excellant job! Turkey Dinner on Tuesday! It's gonna be a party! LOL. Ya know, they are all older than I thought they would be. Hakkiman- I do have to agree with you about Harvick- He was thrown into that position- He did an awesome job. (Although Lars might disagree with us! LOL) |

I do disagree, but not the way you think I am going to. {I know you think I'd pick Matt } I think Tony Stewart was the best rookie ever. He had 3 wins vs. Kev's 2 and finished 4th in points vs. Kev's 9th. Tony had 4774 points in only 34 races in 1999 & Kev only had 4406 in 35 races this year. Even if Kev had run the Daytona 500 he still would not have been able to get as many points as Tony did in '99.
I will say this, I think Matt & Jr. had one of the best rookie battles ever. Don't think anymore than one rookie has ever won a race in their first years? Not sure. |

Ummmm- Steaks! LOL. That all happens AFTER I kick all the 14 year olds out. *G*
Tony did have a good rookie year- But he just came from the IRL & we all knew that he could drive. I really wasn't surprised that he came in & did so well. The reason that I thought Kevin did so good- was that he did ALL that at the same time he was doing the full time Busch & He won that! Plus the stresses of being tossed into DE's old shoes. That had to be mighty stressful experience. The Emotions at RCR this year had to be so thick---ya know? |

One other thing that might be worth considering in the Harvick vs. Stewart rookie year, Harvick stepped in with a fully functioning, championship caliber team at RCR, whiule Tony had all new team. Lars I agree that Tony had the better rookie season, espcially considering he did it with an all new team.
