Corona Cup series (Mexican Formula Renault 2000/1600 & Clio Cup Series)
Today Corona Cup Series make the presentation of their season, FOMAUTO, the company owner of Corona Cup series announce officially the expansion of the championship beyond Mexico frontiers to Guatemala and Costa Rica, and right now talks are in place to see possible venues in Venezuela and Colombia, all this with the direct support from Modelo Group (Corona brand Owners), Renault Sport Europe/Mexico, the logistics support from OCESA (Champ Car & NASCAR mexican races promoters/organizers) and the direct recognition/rule from FIA, with this the Mexican Formula Renault, Clio Cup and the new Formula Renault 1600 championship have right now the base to step from a national to a international-panamerican oriented series, always keeping the key that made Corona Cup Series so successfull at this time, keeping cost contained, a good TV package for Central/South America, being a promoting asset for Renault image where YOU CAN FIND AND SELL RENAULTS !!!!!!!!!, good comunication between promoters/teams, being a proved asset for companies such as NEXTEL, CORONA, LG, etc. to promote themselves in the Panamerican market
By the way, Corona Cup series start their season this weekend in the new El Aguila racetrack in Morelia, Mexico I know is in spanish, but i leave you here the link to the complete note. Here is the link |

The race in Guatemala should be very interesting. I might be there for that round. A formula car race at el circuito de los Volcanes is something worth seeing. Turn 1 after the start will be very ineteresting if not out right dangerous.......

Hope they find some drivers soon as the 'pilotos' pages for both FR & Clios are blank.

The first race of the season is gone already but leave us with interesting things to consider for the next round that will take place at the Champ Car weekend in Monterrey.
The field prove to be very competitive, and very agressive, even with the damp conditions of the racetrack, the race was action packed almost in every part of the field, and the rookies that come from the go-karts and other promotions series di a very well job, loks like the season look to be very competitive and again the pilot to beat will be Homero Richards and the Nextel Team this are the results: Pos. Second round of the season and as it was expected the Corona Cup Series Formula Renault race during the Champcar weekend was a success, the race have their moment of drama since the moment of the start when in a tight move Hugo Oliveras and Homero Richards almost colide making Daniel Mendez hit the car of Juan Pablo Garcia, making Mendez car thumb several times also affecting Garcia teammate German Quiroga, for the joy of all people Mendez was ok, Garcia Quiroga were able to continue but one lap down, the rest of the race was a battle between Oliveras and Mastretta, both separete from the rtest of the field and go very close each other, Mastretta try several times to overtake Oliveras but the car Fed-Ex white car of Oliveras was simply perfect on the race making always Oliveras scape from Mastretta attacks The rest of field was pretty agressive with Antonio Perez making a great race coming from their start in 14th to get at the end of the race the 4th spot after a battle with Diago Fernandez that get the 3rd spot Notewhorty: Carlos Mastretta will join Seat team GR Asia for the next two rounds of WTCC at Imola and Puebla Next Round: WTCC weekend at Puebla Autodromo Miguel E.
