Not really, they managed fine in the past and they will do so again in the future without BMW or Mercedes or whoever leaves.

F1 has been fine without manufacturers in the past - and could do again.
That's precisely why they can't be allowed to hold the sport to ransom. |

So whens the announcment Toyota are pulling out because they can't win a GP.
Why the restriction on the number of cylinders.Would it not be more practical to limit displacement instead? The Grumpy1 Last edited by grumpy1; 14 Jun 2004 at 00:07. |

Why the FIA stipulated V10 only I don't know. At least allow the teams a little creativity. |

That's precisely the reason why they forced V10: to limit creativity (read expensive development process etc). And not they force them to be creative again! This is stooooooopid.

Who cares if BMW leave. I don't. I don't care if all the manufacturers leave. So long as I still have a series of at least 10 teams to watch.

Ho-hum, another manufacturer, another rattle being thrown out of another pram......
Just who is supposed to run the sport? The teams or the FIA? Granted the FIA don't exactly do themselves any favours sometimes, but they ARE the organisers/rule makers. If BMW don't like it then tough. They've pulled out before once their marketing agenda was satisfied... |

The reason for mandating V10s and now V8s is that in the past manufacturers would go down the road of expensive evaluations of various different configurations.

Well, firstly the manufacturesrs actually pay the bills, not Max. Secondly, it wasn't like manufacturers bombastically demanded a "new" formula, with 3 liters and 10 cylinders. It was Max' idea to change the rules.

Max is only playing a publicity stunt, like he's doing since 2000 (the "remove electronics" thing). Or even before when he made the "increase overtakings task force" thing, resulting in narrow cars and grooves). He just say something like "yes I care, I'd be the savior of F1, look what great ideas I have! But alas, the teams won't let me do it. THEY are the evil guys."
